EnigMattic1 got a reaction from K Edgar in Valour FC - 2024 Season Thread
They have signed a handful to multi-year contracts and I wouldn't be surprised if there is a 'club option' to extend in Williams' contract. But, it is frustrating when you see teams like HFX getting Rea on a multi-year deal. Wasn't Akio's deal with Cavalry something like 3 and a half years too?

Any idea who this is in the background?

Noticed in a recent Instagram post by Valour that Artemenko is still there. Is he just training with Valour or is he actually registered to play?

My concern is that, with his recent performances, Antonoglu is looking like the sort of player who wont be here next season. Even when we have looked poor, he has been a standout. And, for that reason, bigger teams will be circling before long.

Apparently, Baaj Mann is on the bench for todays game?? Former Forge and Toronto FC II keeper. I have seen nothing anywhere about him being signed.

Haven't been able to find anything about Maan signing. They kept that one quiet.

At the risk of sounding like an idiot, what is the "Canadian PR" at the start of the video under 'nationality'?
Turns out, he is also part of Eikon. And it would appear he is known to Valour as Eikon posted a "Happy Birthday" post on Insta back in October and it looks like he is in a Valour top. Well, a black Macron one similar to what you see them wearing in training.

I still believe that, given the current state of the first team, it is possible to build a team using players from Manitoba and Saskatchewan sides that could push the current Valour side in a match. Yeah, Valour probably wouldn't take it seriously, but the talent is there.

Guess we will finally find out who he is.

Let's be honest. When you have a total of 4 central defenders, 1 of which isn't fully fit, playing 3 at the back is a mistake.
I can't see either keeper being able to replace Rayane or Sirois either. Has former Whitecaps keeper Hasal been signed by anyone yet??? (Yes, I'm joking here).
Hundal and Swibel just can't be expected to provide the goals that we need. Maybe things will be different when Williams returns, but I am not hopeful.

My issue is, and this is just me speaking from a coaching/scouting perspective, Valour have a somewhat unique situation in stat they have no direct rivals. There are 2 teams in BC and 3 in ON. They, in effect, have 2 provinces worth of players that they could look at. Instead of signing players from Australia or Portugal, they could look closer to home.
Example #1 Viscosi coming in from Finland and you have Evan Barker who had 2 seasons where he was up for Goalkeeper of the year.
Example #2 Vancouver FC will be more attractive to fans as they have something like a dozen "local" players. Fans will want to see a "hometown" hero.
Valour held open trials last year and, although they only kept Alvin Rode on for pre season, you can't tell me there is nobody across 2 provinces who could push for a place in a team that finished bottom and is looking set to do so again.
With over 60 teams in the MMSL, it wouldn't take much to get someone from the scouting team (if we even have one) to keep an eye on the results or even the Bison Cup to see if anyone is worth taking a look at.
Don't get me wrong, this is all just my opinion, but I do think recruitment needs looking into.

The team is paper thin at the moment.
There is no central defender on the bench. Hell, the ONLY defender on the bench for the last two games has been Haynes. When you have a shortage of central defenders, you DON'T play 3-at-the-back. Given that no natural full back was signed, I am starting to get the impression that 3-at-the-back was always going to be the plan. But, if that is the case, why not sign more centre backs? 4 is not enough for that sort of system.
The centre of the park is lacking. That much was shown by starting Faria there against Vancouver. Yes, I know Ohin is coming back from two big injuries, but PDS knew this. We have an abundance of wide players (Binate, Williams, Alarcon, Sukunda, Faria, Hanson and, at a push, Verhoeven) so more central players should have been signed.
In the last two games, a keeper untested in the CPL has been preferred over one who has CPL experience. How many more games before Murasiranwa gets a shot?
Hundal is yet to hit the ground. Looking at the stats, his supply is limited. Hopefully, this will change once Williams returns. But, one can't help but wonder, if another poor season is on the cards, how will we be able to keep players like Williams?

And every year, they bring in someone else from god knows where, who can't find the back of the net with a map (Ponce, Siaj and probably Swibel now too). Well, either that or they will call them a striker and then play them out wide (Niyongabire).

I would like to see some more defensive reinforcements. We do seem a little thin at the back if you count Alarcon and Sukunda as wingers (the CPL site lists Alarcon as a defender but that only makes 6 including full backs). Maybe even a backup keeper on a U-Sports contract.

I didn't realize the white jersey was a tribute to the old Winnipeg Fury shirts. Also cool that they are honoring the 1992 championship team this season.

Yeah you can get promoted up , but never as a high as your first team, also you are relegated automatically if the first team comes down.
