Was hoping to hear by the end of last week but still nothing.  I think we will be okay in the end but just need a bit more patience.

In all fairness. JM mentioned the CPL more in this one interview then Herman in his entire time as Canada Manager.

The silver lining to having a high profile American coach is that we get double-coverage. We're already seeing it now with him naturally appearing on both the Canadian (One Soccer) and American media (Golazo, etc.) circut.
That in turn will put more eyeballs on Canada, which is a good thing.

That’s 2 goals and 7 assists in his last 5 games and 2 goals and 8 assists in his last 7 games.
Im a huge Hoilett fan and I do think he possesses skills and qualities that no one else does for Canada.  I think he’s got a spot on my Gold Cup squad.
But I also think Hoilett’s recent form is in large part to the quality of the league.  He has 10 G+A in his last 8 games.  That’s the same amount of goal contributions he had in his last 3 seasons in the League Championship combined.

I don't understand why this is a bad look. To me, the bad look is that we're fucking broke and our federation has been a complete and utter joke for the past few decades. That's the bad look. Actually trying something different to remedy the situation for once? Call me crazy, but to me that's a good look. This is Canada Soccer, we're lucky to have our bread buttered on one side, never mind both. Unless some unsavoury details come out about this deal, which to this point there has been none (unless I'm missing something), this seems like a brilliant move to actually inject some funding into a program that was otherwise dead in the water. Stadium sponsor, good. Kit sponsor, good. Fucking Weetabix half-time show, good. But manager title sponsor, bad! I just don't understand why it matters. And I literally mean that, I don't actually understand why people are upset about it. Because it's new/different? Because other countries aren't doing it? Because people are personally embarrassed by it? It has been said ad nauseam on this forum that we need more corporate money in the program, that money doesn't grow on trees, that we need someone with some fresh creative ideas to generate some new value in the program, and now that that literal thing is happening, people are upset by it. The reality of Canada Soccer at this point in time is: get creative or be poor. I know what I'm picking.

To be honest none of us should laugh or complain.
Hes the best CV of a coach in awhile and we actually outbid a team.

also, we knew we were poor. Blue is thinking outside the box and being creative, guys we want to play with the big boys but don’t have the budget. It won’t always be this way, but it is for now. This is a welcome solution I don’t care what it’s called, we got a good coach and I’m happy about it.

he’s wanted this job for years, remember that.

Blue was pretty forthright in saying he was going to find philanthropic ways to fund the association.   I see no problem with this…

As good as we were reliably linked with.
Excited to see what he can do.
I have gone on record (as if that matters) saying his system is exactly the type of thing that could be perfect for our players.

I like it. He knows the Canadian landscape and wanted to do more within Canada before he ended up with NYRB.
I think he'll also have a chip on his shoulder after Greggggggg was re-signed to the USMNT.

It would also be a way of addressing one of the issues we seem to experience regularly, which is slow starts and then trying to play catchup if we go down a goal while we are still "growing into the game".   If we train for a system that has us flying right out of gates, we may be able to eliminate one of our issues while increasing he chances that we catch teams napping a bit early on.

He is known for using a 3-4-3 system which is incredibly solid defensively and has a very intense high press.
The Pole is not a fan of possession-based football, though. His philosophy is to encourage ruthlessness in attack rather than any real patience: in essence, press like nutters and go straight for the throat."

Regarding timing: I am in favour of hiring now, not later. Any candidate who is talking to our hiring committee has been studying up on the team, our player pool, watching games, they will all have ideas and if they are hired two weeks before the friendlies, will have some idea of what they want to do.
I don't expect the new CSA president to have any urgency in this regard though.

If I were in charge, I would schedule two matches between VFC and Cavalry, early July and maybe early September after school is back in session. Better to find out now what the temps, smoke, and realistic expected crowds could be before possibly investing in there further. Two different windows, though, and two different days of the week. Fine to promote through local soccer groups but no school freebies as you'd want to find out who might genuinely pay for this product.

Ticket request was made to the French Football Federation a few weeks ago.  Hoping to get a link this week which will be made available to Voyageurs paid members first and then to non members a few days later.  Once we hear more, will post here.

It'd be a shame not to bring in someone now, within 10 days, to prep for the friendlies in Europe, and Copa America. it is crucial experience, everything else means starting from scratch again.
Herdman had a dud Gold Cup to use to make adjustments, apart from sitting on his butt with no friendlies for long stretches. But we want someone who can engage now, even if things don't work out marvellously over the next 5 games we will understand that as long as we are competitive. And as long as it looks like we are on the way to adjusting to a new manager who can lead us into the WC.

So since he's been mentioned, let's consider Aitor Karanka.
He was a solid, strong mostly CB, for Athletic Club de Bilbao, then went to Real Madrid and won a few Champions Leagues, then back to Bilbao, being Basque born. Also had a season in MLS so knows a bit about what things are like over here. Then, to start his coaching career, he was second to Mourinho. Started as head coach about a decade ago.
He has not really had a stellar coaching career, was mostly in Championship though I think he did promote Middlesborough to EPL, though was fired in the second half of the season. His last stint was in Israel, but he left that gig last summer. Also means his English is strong, no problem there.
As we see today, these Basque coaches have solid skills, they emphasize pace and physicality, have knowledge of a more northern European style they are honed in, then have tactical acumen in the Spanish style. I am not saying just because Arteta, Xabi Alonso, Emery, Iraola at Bournemouth are all Basque (Lopetegui, Lillo, Guardiola's assistant, and many more in Spain) they have a genetic extra, but it's a specific and quite solid calling card. They also tend to appreciate academy and developing players, and unlike most club managers; those who have coached Bilbao or been through the system understand about designing their rosters based on nationality, which approximates them to a National Team way of doing things. Athletic Club looks for Basques in the world the way we look for dual nationals.
He's a nice guy, a bit bland, a soft communicator, not really trendy, but quietly smart.
I don't really know if he'd be good for Canada, but at least we are talking about a guy who has played at a top level and been in top tier dressing rooms as a coach. So basically, a far better bio than either Smyrniotis and Wheeldon.
