Dunfield seems like the most chill guy ever. I haven't met him, but he comes across as super likeable. Makes me wonder what the hell is wrong with Insigne? I can totally imagine getting into with BB, who strikes me as more of a "my way or the highway" type of character...but Dunfield?

I'd bet a sizeable amount of money that when he was informed there'd be no September friendlies and there'd only be one in October, he told his agent: "that's it, get me out."
He was already on the brink after the Nations League and he specifically mentioned facing elite opponents as something the team needed.

I don’t really understand this take.  You think any replacement coach would be tactically inferior to Herdman?  Or that players would choose not to represent Canada because Herdman wasn’t there?    I just don’t see that sort of influence on and off the field.  Yes, he has built a strong culture but there are signs that even the influence of that may be decreasing (and I think it is the strongest factor in his favour).  And other coaches have attracted strong dual Nats.  Zambrano was at the helm when Davies made his debut, and I would argue that played a bigger role in having David (who he played with as a youth) commit than Herdman who was  still fairly new as the coach.   Hoilett and Arfield both also signed up pre-Herdman.
Not slagging the guy - I just don’t understand the idea that we will be worse off in every way if we lose him.

I don't think Smyrniotis is the right fit for the NT. He doesn't have any international experience, aside from Champions League games in CONCACAF with Forge. I think he should stay in the club game for now, be it CanPL, MLS, or elsewhere.
If we actually had a functioning youth program I would suggest Smyrniotis for a coaching role, however. That would be a good way to get into the international game.
Speaking of Herdman doing dual duty with Canada and TFC (not going to happen, btw), I think this could be something a CPL coach could manage. Smyrniotis would obviously be top of the list. I would trust him with an U-20 Canada squad, for instance. That preps him for international football and maybe to take the reigns of the Senior national team down the road.

Mundo Deportivo just reported an hour ago that the deal is closed for 7.5, variables would take it up to 8.2 million euros.

AS has a picture of him on arrival in Palma de Mallorca at 7pm local time. He would technically have to do the medical first and then, perhaps tomorrow midday local time, sign and do the presentation.

In declarations to regional tv he said he hoped to play in the final friendly vs. La Spezia (Serie B  team, scheduled for Sunday in their training stadium) if the coach so chooses. So he feels he is game fit.
What all sources agree on is that he was one of the "revelation" players of the second half of the season, his credit is high.

So why was I wrong and no other stronger club chose to come in and steal him for a bit more? Maybe he preferred to go where he was wanted, where he seemed to have negotiated terms, and that is what convinced Valladolid to make the deal and not delay hoping for a better one.

I can't be the only one who is excited to see more and more legit pros retire and move on to other aspects of our soccer system...especially those with deep connections and the desire to stay here. Always room for them in coaching, media, development of any kind...even just having kids of their own lol. Congrats to Ashtone on his illustrations and truly Canadian career🙌

A good journeyman pro:  you don't have to be a "star" player to be a role model for others in this game, and the fact that he was able to make a good career of it shows the way.
Thanks, Ashtone, and all the best in your future ventures 🙂

Well, we'll just have to find out.  Hopefully she delivers a well reffed game without controversy.

Canada's not particularly good at "holding back."
It's a recipe for disaster against an Aussie side that will be desperate for the victory and will have the full voice of the crowd behind them. Canada needs to play their own game and not aim for a draw.

I think we will get the result we need.  Quinn and Fleming in the middle of the park gives an important advantage in controlling the tempo.  Keeping Sinclair as a last 30 sub will help.  Schmidt impressed off the bench, as well.  The only question mark for me is Buchanon's status because I think there is a fall off back there if she is not present.

She's not that invisible.  I see her all the time on the BMO ads. 😉
Based on what I have seen so far in two games, Quinn has been our best player.  Excellent in the defensive mid role:  breaks up plays and keeps the possession rolling.  If she's not clicking or not available, our chances for a spot in the semis get curtailed significantly.

I am pretty sure the rule states that a foul as last man in the box is never a red and cannot be more than a yellow. The International Board establilshed this. Or maybe it is something some leagues have brought in.
I am also pretty sure that a card on the field cannot be revoked after consultation and turned into a red, the ref was consulting the fourth official on it, but using his headset, not even approaching him. He took out an immediate yellow then did a fake VAR review and changed it. But only when he was clear about being able to do the same to the VFC player.
BTW, one of the kids with me rightly observed the ref had a BCSA badge on his shirt while the other officials were CSA. And rightly said that most likely the fourth official was higher ranked and would probably have done better. Who appointed this guy, he was a total incompetent?
This looked lilke a case of the CSA experimenting, or maybe pandering to the BCSA, so thanks for using these crucial VFC matches to try out inexperienced, characterless officials.

A bit of a head scratcher by Fulham. Jimenez is unlikely to replace the goal production of Mitrovic.

I think its because Mexican teams are considered the higher seed but can't host in Leagues Cup.
Probably just means the Mexican team selects their jersey color first

If anyone thinks that was a bad performance: it really was not.
I was at the Canada-Cameroon in 2019 in Montpellier, we won 1-0, but we looked much less offensive, we had no attack at all and just squeeked it out. And that rival was far worse than Nigeria, we were far superior and just barely won.
We had no attacking talent in 2019, and we struggled like hell in the Olympics, getting the right penalty calls and being tough defensively. This team has far more attacking options, we have players who can score and are used to scoring. Seeing Huitema, Viens and Lacasse on late, that was good.
Overall, the team is going through positive changes as new players come in, we will continue to be competitive as the veterans move out. I feel positive, despite the draw.

    I believe it is this:

There is an agreement called the Cotonou Accords that allows, among other things, workers from Africa, Pacific Islands and the Caribbean to be considered as EU workers. Valladolid actually signed Larin’s teammate Jawad El Yamiq from Morocco under this agreement.
