From what I understand, the Japanese squad has been plagued with injuries and will likely be without several key players, some of whom will be questionable for the first game (against Germania!) If we need to give some guys a much-needed rest, then let's frickin do it. We will not be the only side scrambling to get their players healthy before next week. Several of our fringe guys would benefit from another game. I would love to see Kone start in the center of the midfield, to be honest. Hutch might come on at 60 minutes, and I'm not convinced MAK is an upgrade on Kone, even with all his experience. Give Kone a chance to adapt to the pace NOW, before we need him as sub against Belgium et al.

As a public service to John Herdman and his staff, I have just gone through this thread and compiled the following notes for his consideration:
1) Alphonso Davies was both the best and worst player on the pitch.
2) Our defense will likely get overrun by Belgium and Croatia, but we should also play more attacking players.
3) While the rules limit your substitutions, you should still ensure all 26 players in camp touch the field, especially for sentimental reasons like they once played in that country.
4) Larin, who has scored twice against both the US and Mexico in the last calendar year, is an unviable option up front, while Ugbo is the key (despite missing a sitter against mighty Qatar).
5) Simon Eaddy should definitely not be our set-piece taker going forward.

Agree 100%. The October qualifier against Mexico at Azteca and in his infamous game against CR he gave the ball away multiple times in precisely that manner. Both teams had chances to put us away off his mistakes. We were lucky to tie in MEX and only lose by 1 in San jose.
He may make the WC squad but I would be surprised if he sees the field in Qatar.

Is it me or does Davies look physically stronger? He looks a lot less gangly in my eyes. Perhaps growing more into his body. 

I look back to this tweet and it still astounds me how much incompetence we continue to see. After everything that happened during that window, aside from settling with the players, this would be top priority to show fans, casual fans and people who don’t really follow that we’re on it so to speak. There are plenty of construction deaths yearly. Furthermore, canada aint perfect... https://www.migrantworker.ca/news/media-archive/ . And there will be mistakes made for the 2026 WC and a multi-million dollar public inquiry to follow. You can bet on it. 
Might as well have a nice stadium and just plan to do it in an equitable way. Those two things can happen simultaneously. Lets go Tannenbaum!

Players in central america grow up in these conditions. When its rains everyday for 2-3 months you are use to it, the same way we are use to playing on plastic fields or in gyms. To me, it looked like they had a major homefield advantage due to the elements. Our players couldnt/wouldnt adjust. It almost seemed like they tried to fight the weather instead of adapting.
