I will admit that I was one who was wondering if Crepeau may displace Borjan on the basis of his strong GC play.  But last night Borjan was a beast.  That diving header outside the box took some serious cajones and I don’t know if a less edgy keeper is even position to get there in time.  And I think he got just enough of the late shot to push it onto the post.  Hell, he was inches away from saving a pretty much perfect PK.
There was some blame to go around in the result last night, but none of it goes on him.

Small can be quite an advantage. It depends on how you run your team. Team size is like fire, it can cook your steak or burn your house down. There is a lot written about Nuno Santo and his 16 player squad at Wolves (plus three GK).

IMO, calling for Herdman’s head is clearly overreacting but it certainly wasn’t his best performance. To be totally honest, I’m still not entirely sure what formation we were playing. It was mentioned that Laryea was playing in midfield while in possession, almost like a 10. But then also playing LB defensively? How can you expect someone to do that effectively? It created some awkward situations for Davies/Buchanan who did not look comfortable or confident in knowing who to defend.
I’ve also noticed for a while now that even though Davies is generally very good defending 1v1, he can fall asleep defensively when the man he is marking does not have the ball. This same thing happened to Tajon in the lead up to the goal. When his man passed the ball and ran in behind, he didn’t track the run quickly enough and then was chasing from behind and panicking. I haven’t seen enough of Tajon to know if this is common or not, but we need everyone to stay switched on and defend off the ball better.

People need to get off Herdman's back in my opinion until we have a larger sample size against good opposition. We've all been begging to see Tajon and Davies on the wings, it didn't work. Maybe that's because we took power out of the centre of the park with Laryea being on, maybe it's even a lot due to Hutchison's poor start to the match. But how could we know that would happen til we tried it? We all were making lineups trying to include all the weapons and saying otherwise now is just revisionist history. We really cannot fault him for trying it IMO
The one major negative I will give him was swapping wings for 25 mins in the 1st half was a terrible idea. Otherwise, I don't think he did anything that wild and that poor that deserves this level of criticism we're seeing.  Let's see how he handles the next two. As long as we get the win against ES and are competitive with the US, no reason to push the panic button yet
Lastly regarding the calling 23 players, I think there's an element that he's banking on a few things. One, that if needed we're in North America and can quickly call upon local guys. Two, allowing some of our young guys with recent transfers (Corbeanu, Millar) time to gel with their new rosters and earn playing might benefit us in future windows if they're starting regularly and in good form as opposed to still struggling for playing time with both us and their clubs. Is it a risk? Yes. Is it the end of the world? No. If we're to make it to Qatar, it's on the backs of players 1-20 in this squad, not through depth options 21-30.

    Thoughts from section 110:
    1. Atiba was definitely rusty, but he grew into the game
    2. Not upset we tried the Davies/Buchanan experiment, but wtf was that switching sides fiasco
    3. Kennedy needs to start
    4. Borjan played great. Almost equally important, he single handedly got the crowd going on several occasions bringing us to our loudest points.
    5. Crowd was great, neutrals don't know the more difficult chants but more than willing to go along with the simple ones. The Bullshit chants to the ref were a notable favourite in 110.
    6. There was an altercation or two between Honduras and Canadian fans that ended with security and police escorting a few people out. It happened a few rows behind me and I was too focused on the last few minutes to care too much. Anyone in attendance able to confirm what happened?
Also was interesting to hear the take of some family members who are newly exposed to the national team (including a grandpa who played as "pro" as you could in apartheid South Africa): Loved Johnston and Vitoria on D, loved Eustaquio in the middle, thought Atiba, Kamal, Buchanan, and Larin left a lot to be desired.

Looks like kids against experience men, didn’t have a good feeling about this game . Will take a monumental comeback to win this , doesn’t look good , Honduras the better team right now

Yes, this time it certainly feels different, and yes, I am trying to be optimistic, but 37 years of supporting the men’s national team has prepared me for the inevitable heartbreak. I can see Canada coming out of the first three games with anywhere from two to four points and being virtually eliminated in a week’s time. Prove me wrong, boys!
I also have to confess that if Canada doesn’t qualify for Qatar, the blame resides solely on me. I don’t have a religious bone in my body, but at the start of the women’s shootout against Sweden, I said a silent prayer to God/Buddha/Allah/Superman that if the women won the shootout, it was OK if the men didn’t qualify for Qatar. I don’t think we can ask the Higher Powers to help us out twice in such a short time. Or can we?!
Godspeed to all. Let’s all enjoy this journey together.

Agree with you on this, but I'd argue our true ace is how we perform in these first few windows. If we can show we're an exciting team and we're very young. Take away Borjan, Atiba, and Vitoria, our average age is 22.4. If we can start the qualifiers on fire, then we leave Herdman to sell him on how much better this team would look with Tomori in the back 3 for the next 3, possibly 4 WC cycles

Edit: possible math error, never my best subject - I forgot to include Wotherspoon in my calculation so it would actually be just over 25, but my point still stands, we're a very young team...
