I'll never understand how Godinho was selected to play vs Haiti over ZBG.  How?  I hope ZBG was slightly injured or something, otherwise its just nuts and Herdman's biggest ever mistake.
Ya, for me, Godinho is still the number 1 reason Haiti put three against us, he was involved in all three goals against.

I saw the same.  Wasn't quite as effective or comfortable at LW as he was at LB.

Commentators just mentioned excellent link up play between Davies and Coman in the 1st half.  Davies just showed great maturity in shielding Coman from jumping the AC Milan player after a dirty foul.

This.  As well as he's got a few buddies already playing for Nigeria.  Not much connection with CANMNT except knowing he'll be an automatic starter right from the start.

Indeed, Garde addressed Edwards case several times.  He had won the starting role at the Impact and burned his opportunity with off the field issues.  Seems to be the same situation in Chicago.
IT started with gentle, strategically placed direct hints to Edwards via the media.  He later removed all question and doubt and said straight up "he's got the talent, the problem is in his head and focus".  Garde has had to deal with quite a few other head cases (Vargas, Novillo...) and he's never been so blunt and direct as he was with Edwards.  Must be pretty bad, and sad.

21 year old CB valued at $20M+.  England is deep in CB's, not sure of Nigeria's situation, however i'll bet they'll rush to at least cap tie him quickly. I hope i'm wrong.....

If we look past the math and consider the ball is round and the pitch is flat (at least on most concacaf pitches)..... There are two roads to Qatar:
1- The hex: 10 games vs very good competition, most teams are better than us.  Finishing 4th would be an excellent result for Canada, probably the best we could honestly hope for.  Finishing 4th gets you to the exact same spot as finishing 1st of 7-35.
2- Round of 7-35: 10 or 12 games vs some minnows and perhaps 2-3 teams equal to Canada.  Finishing 1st gets you to the same spot as finishing 4th in the hex.
If we don't win the 7-35 round, we don't deserve to be there.  If we don't finish above 4th in the hex, we also don't deserve to be there.  But to say that teams have a better chance in the hex is false.  Finishing 3rd or above is the only scenario that is favorable, and that's a long shot, way more difficult than winning the 7-35. If one feels we've got a good shot at finishing 3rd or above, than we should be equally as arrogant about the 7-35 path.
Bottom line is: who do would we play in the draw?  Thats the clincher.  If its conmebol we need to go for 3rd spot in the hex.

I don't get why there is so much negativity here.  Its all in our hands, no one got ripped off or special treatment.
We can either win games to make it to the hex and take our chances there, or coast and play in the 7-35 bracket.
Either way, ITS IN OUR HANDS.  No one has gotten concacafed here.  Saying this benefits the USA is bullshit, they got eliminated from the hex last time around.  Why would they be confident this time around?  How are they being favored exactly?
Also, how can someone be so confident about finishing top 3 in the hex, while also being worried about coming out of the 7-35?  There are realisticly 6 ok teams going for .5 spot in the 7-35, but 6 strong teams in the hex playing for 3 spots.
We'll only know which route is better after the draw.  If its conmebol, then yes, we must go for the hex, anyone else and i'd gamble on the 7-35 bracket.

costarg reacted to Unnamed Trialist in Milan Borjan
You can tell reading this thread that the majority of commentators do not watch clubs that regularly pass back to keepers. Those blaming Borjan simply have no experience watching how it is done properly. That is fine, but just admit you do not understand how you train it and execute it as a basic recourse.
I can honestly say that in the entire past year, at FC Barcelona, over almost 60 games, with at least 8-10 back passes per game sometimes more, not once did a defender go back to the keeper as poorly as that. And we probably have the most skilful keeper with the ball at his feet in the world.
If that play happened at FCB, hardly anyone would ever say it was anywhere near the keeper's fault, it'd be 98% fault of the defender. It comes down to what you expect of a player in a professional situation. Not to making up bulllshit based on hypothetical assumptions.

ok, but playing guys used to playing two in the back in a 3 man back, is just as bad as playing a winger as fullback.  Its still out of position.  Not the same role at all.
We should also at least try to field Hoilett, he's still only 29.  I'm leaning towards a 4-4-2 in order to get our best in their natural positions out there:
    -------- David - Cavallini
    Davies - Arfield - Kaye - Hoilett
    Cordova - Henry - Tomori - ZBG
