Herdman never said anything about this player being called in March, he just said that we have someone who has committed to the program
even tho injured, eustaquio is a very exciting addition. he's the only one that makes sense at the moment

Honestly, at this point if its anyone besides Tomori or Eustaquio it will be underwhelming in my opinion.

I think Eustaquio is eventually bound to play for Canada, so I'm hoping its Tomori.  But he is getting a lot of press and attention overseas as a star for the future.

No. Arfield just basically got tired waiting and went with the girl that would go out with him instead of his dream girl who was ignoring him and showed no signs of ever changing her opinion.

I can't imagine it being Ferreira after his recent injuries.  To me, I'm not sure he will ever be the player he once was. So I doubt Herdman would lead fans on in that perspective.  Also, he really hasn't been relevant in any Portugal National program in years minus the one friendly he played in a year and half ago.
It could be Eustaquio, assuming he can regain full health by September.
Based on injuries my only other significant "pioneer" would be Tomori which I don't see happening until possible September as well (after Euro U21).
I think we can all agree that these three would be the potentially "Big 3".  And unless Tomori shocks all of us and switches before the Championship, I can't imagine this player contributing to the Gold Cup squad.

Good run, control & finish.  Hopefully his confidence continues to grow again.  You can see the relief in his face after celebrating.

I think Ferreira and Eustaquio will suit up for us if/when they get playing again. I think the former is getting past Portugal call ups and the latter moving to Mexico puts further doubt and less eyes on him for Portugal. If he was already a part of the senior squad then the move might have been fine but he would have to tear it up in a serious manner imo to get noticed.
As others have mentioned Tomori is my hope also. He would simply be a huge edition to our weakest area. He isn't likely to get into the England team within the next 3/4 years at least. There are so many ahead of him.
As mentioned too Bassong or Gutierrez would also be great.
Maybe my tail is up for the wrong reason but I feel we could see all of the above.
Everyone is going to shit the bed when its revealed the player is Ferdi Kadioglu.

If it is Eustaquio, I would be very happy to get him - even with the current injury.  With the level of treatment and rehab these guys have access to, there is no reason why this kind of injury needs to affect his play in the long term.  Short term, of course he will be out for a while and then have a recovery period.  But guys of this calibre are about increasing our quality player pool and raising the baseline when it comes to overall squad quality.   Injury or not, this guy is 22 and he has the potential to do that for the next decade - and that is exciting.  When you think of 2022 and 2026 as our golden opportunities, this guy would be in his prime.
Then again if it Tomori, we get a guy who immediately provides an upgrade in our back line and has a ceiling above any of our current centrebacks.
Either of these guys would be great.

He's been cap tied since October 2017 and has played for Italy 6 times including World Cup qualifiers.

I agree with you.  As much as I would love Tomori to join, I just can't imagine it coming until after Euro U21 this summer or possibly even Olympics with Great Britain.
Eustaquio hopping back across the pond to play in North America does not make any sense for a player intending to compete with a strong Portugal National team player pool.  This and the fact that his U21 Portugal career has ended a year earlier than expected.  Plus he has been in touch and supportive on social media for recent player commitments.

Great player!  As great of an addition it would have been to our team, its less painful to see him join Italy as he himself has no connection to Canada and would only have chosen us if Italy was an unrealistic dream.  The pain is greater when the player was either born and or raised in Canada and then switch allegiances.
With that being said, Arfield had a similar connection as Cristante and we all have welcomed him with open arms.

I believe 2012 was a one off so we don’t need to worry about that.  One would assume that he wants to play for England u21s but if he has convinced himself that he’s going to eventually play for Canada it wouldn’t be all that shocking to see him commit for the Gold Cup.

I haven't seen much of Gnarby, but he is young, and as a winger has scored 21 league goals in the Bundesliga in 49 appearances over the last 2 seasons. He was at Arsenal, now Bayern Munich. He's a full German international. How shitty could he be?
If Davies put up those numbers, we'd be thrilled.

If anything, I think this should temper expectations a bit.  In a game needing goals - with a squad that clearly showed they were taking the match seriously - he didn't see the pitch.  I have no doubt he will come good at Bayern, but at this point he is clearly not "the guy".  He will get his chances and hopefully make the most of them, but it is clear that the coach thinks he has some work to do.

This technically applies here and I just think it's really cool. I'm currently interning for Richmond Hill Soccer Club and one of our U17 goalkeepers just got called up to the Mongolian(!) Under-23 national team. I love soccer.

I love the idea that a neophyte David playing a few months in a league where defending is still soft and coming on usually in uncrucial moments of games or against weaker sides is somehow better than a proven striker in Mexico, with years of production and a just as encouraging developmental curve.
I am encouraged by David but I too get tired of how frigging silly this board gets. If David is scoring for Gent next year in Europa League, or the one after that in a better league, come back and talk to me. The case of Larin has shown that some leagues are clearly harder than others, in spite of folks thinking that maybe MLS is comparable to Turkey.

He is cap tied to Canada now, so no need to worry anymore.  I have to admit that I do wish for this exact circumstances for any fence sitters until they commit!

Trained with the first team this Monday morn, once again. Of those that went, Peña is the third keeper, Morer and Wague are outside backs, Cuenca is a CB, so he is the only attacker getting called in.
We continue to hear rumours of both Denis Suárez and Malcolm possibly being loaned out or sold, so that would put him up on the pecking order. Thing is, there are players on the B team who never train with the 1st team who are actually more prolific scoring, so go figure.
