I'm a die hard Fulham fan, whose fandom started with Radzinski. Hoping he stays and fills the CB void at Fulham and with the CMNT.

Pretty sure his dad outright said he wants to play for Canada, the cb future could be bright with him, JBL and LS.

Look, I still don’t have a premier league team, so commit to us and I’ll be a Fulham fan for life

apbsmith got a reaction from Shway in CNL: Curaçao vs Canada - Saturday, March 25th, 9pm Eastern / 6pm Pacific - Willemstad, Curaçao
Very disappointed no third goal or one in 2nd half up a man.
Great opportunity to establish "killer instinct".
Overall happy with result.

Curaçao Squad:

Canadian players that are suspended:
🟥Edwards (from what I can tell, he got two yellows in a row for dissent after the final whistle - was not called into the squad)
🟥Johnston
Canadian players that are on a yellow card:
🟨Borjan
🟨Buchanan (if you watch the replay on ONESoccer, the sequence of events starts @ 1hr55min57seconds, it almost looks like David got the card, very strange)
🟨David (he gets his yellow at 90 + 6:03 , @ 2hrs27min47seconds on the ONESoccer replay)
🟨Henry (was not called into the squad)
🟨Hoilett (was not called into the squad)
🟨Larin (if you watch the replay on ONESoccer, @ 2hrs27min12seconds it is VERY CLEAR that Larin got a card but it's not listed in the report below)
🟨Vitória
(EDIT: If Edwards only got a straight red, then there may be another Canadian on a yellow)

The Referee:
Juan Gabriel Calderón, from Costa Rica. He was our ref in the 2021 Gold Cup match against Haiti in Kansas City.
The weather:
Probably a humid 26°C and partly cloudy.
Thankfully, not much rain in the forecast for the week in Curaçao so we we aren't likely to see a waterlogged pitch again.

This is the thread about the Nations League. If you want to discuss the dispute, please keep it to the other thread. Some people may be trying to not have to read about it in two places; maybe even some of us are no longer interested in the circling back and forth onto the same arguments. Have at it, but not here.

I was kinda hoping that it was an expletive laden tirade that he went on but then went back and deleted it all. It's much more fun to try to fill in the blanks.
Maybe that's what I need to do to get my post count up. Post the same thing two or three times and then go back and "delete" it.

apbsmith reacted to Shway in Jonathan David
I think our hidden play might be moving David to a 10 position where he can be more involved in the link up with the midfielders, and have less of an expectation to hold the ball/lead the line. He’s great at finding spaces, and is lethal in transition without the ball.
Although he can do great job, when he’s a lone 9 he’s required to do a lot more then what he does best.
I’ve been a big advocate of us playing a 352, but I would like to see a 4231.
1 - Larin (we might be silently having a new age striker crisis)
3 - Davies, David, Buchanan
2 - Kone, Staq

apbsmith reacted to Obinna in Jonathan David
This was exactly the scenario I had in mind with Davies.
The game against the states in Hamilton was THE standout match for me from David. Even though he didn't score, he was everywhere. High, low, side-to-side, providing an outlet, taking the foul, slowing down the play, managing the game for us, etc. Everything went through him and he was brilliant. He was also playing without Davies.
It sounds weird to say, but I almost want Davies to get out of his way, if you know what I mean. Stay on the wing where you are world class, then let the game come to you instead of trying to find the game. This perhaps would stop Davies from trying to do too much.
If Herdman can get Davies playing like he did in Nashville, and David playing like he did in Hamilton, and if we can bring two of those things consistently together in the same game, we will be lethal.
Herdman needs to find a formation or strategy to make that happen.

Herdman was surprised Eustaquio got through Belgium but then started him against a better Croatia and didn't run a 3rd mdifielder to help him out and a 39-year old Atiba?
Bruh.

I'm leaning towards having our first goal at a World Cup being an own goal, just to get past that dumb milestone and onto better things.
OG Lovren, a Canadian Heritage moment.
Now can we get a point or three?

Scenarios for remaining games
In all cases, Canada advances with 2 wins and is eliminated with any further loss; I examine the other cases below.
If BEL/MAR draw
Canada advances with a 2-goal win and a draw.
Canada advances with a 1-goal win and a draw UNLESS tiebreaker goes beyond goal differential and Canada loses it.
Canada is eliminated with 2 draws.
If BEL beats MAR
Canada advances with win vs. CRO and draw vs. MAR UNLESS CRO beats BEL and wins tiebreaker against CAN.
Canada advances with draw vs. CRO and win vs. MAR UNLESS CRO beats BEL.
Canada is eliminated with 2 draws UNLESS BEL beats CRO and CAN wins 3-way tiebreaker.
If MAR beats BEL by x goals
Canada advances with win vs. CRO and draw vs. MAR UNLESS any ONE of the following occurs:
- BEL beats CRO,
- BEL draws CRO and x=1 and CAN beats CRO by only 1 goal and BEL at least matches CAN in total goals,
- CRO beats BEL and wins tiebreaker against CAN.
Canada advances with draw vs. CRO and win vs. MAR UNLESS EITHER of the following occurs:
- BEL does not draw CRO and either CAN beats MAR by 0.5x goals or less or (CAN beats MAR by 0.5x+0.5 goals and has fewer total goals than MAR)
- BEL draws CRO and x=1 and CAN beats MAR by only 1 goal and is not among the two teams advancing via the BEL/CAN/MAR tiebreaker (all 3 teams at 0 differential, so starts with total goals for)
Canada is eliminated with 2 draws.
My takeways:
- Overall, BEL/MAR draw is the best scenario for Canada, although BEL beating MAR is the only case where Canada could advance with 2 draws.
- BEL win is preferable to MAR win if Canada then beats CRO.
- MAR win, especially a small one, is arguably preferable to BEL win if Canada then draws CRO. It would give Canada control of its destiny, but may require a margin of victory against MAR.
- In any case, Canada will need help if it draws MAR on the 3rd matchday UNLESS BEL/MAR draw and Canada beats CRO by 2+ goals, in which case a draw vs. MAR would be guaranteed to suffice.

apbsmith got a reaction from Corazon in Canada vs Japan - Thursday, November 17th - 8:40am EST / 5:40am Pacific - Al Maktoum Stadium, Dubai, The United Arab Emirates
Excellent result and excellent confidence builder.
Some things to work on and more importantly, very important lesson learned today... If you switch off for even 1/2 second against higher quality opponents you will get punished.
Very fortunate not 2-1 Japan in the 90th min after we switched off for 1/2 sec and gave up a break way that Japan banged off the post.
We looked very impressive for significant portions of this game, I can't wait until next week!

apbsmith reacted to Corazon in Liam Fraser
I absolutely think he played himself onto the team after Fridays game. Was significantly better than Kaye and I feel like he’s trusted more than Kaye now. Unfortunately Kaye was never not gonna be included so I think one of Corbeanu, ZBG or Brym might have lost their spot for Fraser. Probably the right move considering how fragile a lot of our core midfielders are right now.
