I would gladly take a team full of guys like Ian Hume - full of heart, pride and dedication to his country (even though he lived most of his life outside it). But when he brought it to the team, everything was left on the pitch. Blood, sweat and tears.
These guys like Jono DeGuzman who stayed on the fence are all the same. It's all about them and their careers - not about their country and it shows. Hoilett was this way for years and although hopeful, I always felt like he would choose England or Jamaica - although maybe he never got the chance. Since he showed his intention to play with Canada, he has been a great talent and I believe a strong voice for the team.
Canada should never feel 2nd best. When you see Mexican players at the beginning of a match with their hand at their heart and singing their national anthem proudly, it far exceeds the level of pride for players in our country. IMO, This has to change.
As far as I'm concerned, guys like Akinola need a slap in the face. I don't give a crap how many goals you score if it's all about you. I would rather him score fewer goals if he makes it a better team - one that can play at the highest level where he and his teammates are  proud to play for their country.

It's time we moved on from David. Maybe he can resurrect his career somewhere else.

Quick update:  Scott has signed with SK Klagenfurt, a team in the Austrian Football Second League, formerly the First League.  This the second highest professional division in Austrian football. It contains 16 teams and is run in the same fashion as the Austrian Bundesliga. The champion of the league is promoted to the Bundesliga and the three last placed teams are directly relegated from the Second League into the regional leagues. The league is currently known as the Sky Go 2. Liga for sponsorship reasons.  Games are streamed online www.laola1.tv.

@Tg11: Someone should not represent a country just because they have a better chance of playing in the World Cup.  Someone should represent a country because they are a citizen of the country and proud to play for that country.  If a player thinks otherwise, I don’t want them playing for Canada.  It’s rather simple really!

Good question -- I'm not ready to say more than Canada yet, just that Akinola is closer with the US than before. I used to think he would have almost no chance with the US senior team, but now he's playing CF and the US young CF depth is not very strong, clearly weaker than at winger. It's not a great chance, but enough for Akinola to keep up hopes with them. If they are able to poach Siebatcheu from France within the next few years, and if Jonathan Amon (Emre Mor 2.0) stays healthy or if another one of the young winger prospects breaks out at a Pulisic/Amon level allowing Tim Weah to move from winger to CF, then those would seriously hurt Akinola's chances.

Glad to hear he has a mental coach at LFC.  Very much needed for most, if not all youth players, especially high level ones to help them become successful pros. Also very glad that at MNT level Herdman seems to intend to fully integrate mental performance concepts and training in the international environment. Major gap in the program for years badly needing to be addressed. Here's hoping Liam does well the next few months and earns another call to the senior team.

If Ivory Coast can somehow get this done and Ballou for sure jumps ship to Ivory Coast he gets to play for not only one of the greatest African teams in the world but he gets to learn from and develop under the system of Marc Wilmots, one of the most iconic managers in Africa right now who just happens to be Ivory Coast's coach...

CSA are calling him up clearly at each friendly since he played for the Impact. They called him for Toulon. Both Herdman and Zambrano have talk publicly about wanting him to join the MNT. You make your « bold » statement but if you think that the CSA aren’t doing anything, you are clearly ignorant on the situation.

This is a pretty promising move for Fillion. FC Aarau is in the 2nd tier Challenge League but are one of the bigger teams there. His competition at keeper is Steven Deana who is a veteran of the Swiss 2nd tier and started the first game but if he gets some chances and takes advantage of them he will be playing at a decent level with possibilities of moving to the Swiss 1st tier Super League especially given that he is owned by FC Zurich of that league. We definitely need some keeper depth for the national team so hopefully he will be one to watch.
