These commercials would be Voyaguers classics if we had any idea what they were saying.

I think Canada is going to pump at least one of the two by more than 6 goals. Most offensive starters are in good form but Cavallini. Having Hutch back he's going to demand a lot of focus and effort (He's not there to screw around). Playing in Florida on a good field rather than a potato field will also be a big advantage. This to me isn't like those previous WQC where Canada simply "does" the job against the minnow, this will be a statement round.
*See you here later when I'm eating crow*

I actually hope we ruthlessly smash both Bermuda and Cayman Islands so that we can make a mockery of this stupid qualifying format.

Interesting is not what I’m looking for from this game

True, Aiden Daniels had that one run where he made a few nice moves and got clear of three guys....only to pass it backwards.
There was one moment where Bair had acres of space to run onto but opted to play a long ball that went no where.
On the flip side,
You had Tajon show that very desire you speak of with that last run in the game before passing it to Ballou's now infamous miss. That is what we never had before in this country.
You had Dias fight like an animal the 20 or so minutes he played, trying his hardest to be a difference maker.
You had Pantemis showing some fire.
You had Baldisimo closing people down, getting stuck in... although he did get caught in position by being too cute at times.
You had Cornelius telling the world he has ice running through his veins by how confident he handled the ball back there.
I obviously don't know how everyone on this squad is going to pan out but I could see a handful of this new breed adding to the existing tools we have in this ever growing shed of ours.

That's what I blame it on. Here's a picture of G-L and me in our younger days on this board:

Bikerack reacted to Shway in Marcelo Flores
A good Olympic showing, Gold cup opportunities, and making the Octo...I’m not worried about our duals anymore.
If they come then great, but we’re growing and getting better regardless.
So if it’s not Marcelo today, then it’s Marco who we never knew about - tomorrow.
The main thing is we need to play games/have random camps at all levels.

Bikerack reacted to Shway in Class of 2003
This has been said before.... but like always, expect some names to disappear like Bryce Alderson, or pleasantly appear with no CSA ID like Tajon.
Ultimately I agree that this class year will be the best. And it’s simply just down to the ever increasing opportunities for Canadian footballers. Thank God for the CPL.

Bikerack reacted to Dominic94 in Daniel Jebbison
So he was born here, left at 13/14 and signed with Sheffield.
I’ll say this, Dias, Flores and him leaving early for better soccer kinda sucks, but we’re clearly doing right if we’re producing kids who are clearly above the rest and are doing well at higher youth levels and becoming youth internationals for other countries.
until we play youth games we will see more duals play for other countries at the youth level. Given his scoring rate clearly England wants a look. Longterm the odds of him playing for England senior are the same as Dias playing for Portugal.
they both play positions that are currently occupied by top 10 players in the position, and they have depth. Anything can happen, but it’s unlikely they pass everyone. I would say this for 98% of prospects btw and same deal if Flores were to try to play for England or Portugal. The only difference is Flores us more likely to be good enough for Mexico, than Jebbison and Dias being good enough for England and Portugal.
not a knock on either, just that both are going through resurfaces/golden generations.
however the 2003 birth year in Canada looks very very nice.

He won’t spill the beans nor should he. Would be disrespectful to the CSA and would be a disservice to his son.

The first thing board members say when players do well at club level:
"This better translate into great #CanMNT form."

"This better translate into better club opportunities."

Is Herdman the best coach that was available in 2018? No.
Is Herdman the best coach that we could afford and was available? Probably still no.
Is Herdman the most qualified coach we've had? No, I think that title would go to someone like Floro and look how that trainwreck ended. But after that, if you compare Herdman to Yallop, Mitchell, Hart, Fonseca, Findlay, Miller and even Zambrano, I wouldn't think he's the least qualified. He actually has had success on the international stage, albeit in the women's game. But success is success, especially in the international game because you don't get to work with the same players day in and day out like you do in a league setting. It is a different mindset and approach to the game.
The one thing that most people on here complain about is his bluster and pop psychology, but that is actually the one thing that he brings to the table that this team needs. For years Canada has underperformed when it counted. We've had stellar individuals play for this team over the last 20 years but have never been able to put it together on the field. We were always missing that intangible. This is where Herdman excels and maybe this is what the team needs.
And this is why the loss to Haiti was so disappointing. The team turned off in the second half. No, not just one player, but the entire team turned off. And that was on Herdman. I remember seeing him in the Air Canada lounge a day or two after that game in Ottawa and it looked like he was going through video, but I was still too pissed to say anything. But at least he was working on it. So I can only hope that he learned from that game too and it doesn't happen again.
All that to say, if you compare him to the other coaches we've had over the last two decades, he's definitely above average. And he's the first that brings something to the table that we've needed for awhile. The women's team punched above their weight during his tenure, so maybe the men's team will too. And if that happens, we may see something special.
