  1. Yes, they would essentially have to sell their franchise rights to whatever American owner wanting to put a team in many deserving markets. All of the teams would make a massive profit. However MLS would still own rights to their intellectual property/brands, so each club would have to do a rebrand of some sort. If those clubs were willing to make this move, they could have an agreement with Canada Soccer that no team from MLS could come into their market.
  2. Well lets say its 2027 and that when this happens... The CPL salary floor would have risen to at least 3M based on recent trends. The incentive would be that the MLS teams would be allowed to have salary flexibility. (Well I guess Forge could join them aswell). The teams would continue to look the way they do now, it just the Canadian players would get a lot more minutes. At the moment there's a massive budget gap, but I can't say there's a massive talent gap, and I think at some point the CPL will introduce a marquee or designated player that would help with the merge. The fan bases I don't believe will be effected. I don't think they are so embedded into the MLS (most don't even know the rules) that they would notice the difference other than Gareth Bale not coming to Montreal. Considering Montreal and Vancouver have had fan bases that have existed long before the MLS I don't think it will have the negative effect people like to think. There's Eurosnob, is Americansnob a thing? I hope not. I think people overhype the Toronto vs insert big American city. Those opportunities would continue to come in the expanded CCL which would provide greater opportunities for the bigger clubs (TFC, MTL, WFC) to continue to be on the continental stage vs having to compete for essentially 1 guaranteed spot (VC Champion).
  3. I don’t care for pro/rel as much as I care about the 3 American league based clubs joining our D1 league. I think it would be a crazy game changer for the entire landscape of the league- entertainment, and development value. There’s things we can learn from MLS to avoid, and things to pull from…the same can be said about European leagues.
  4. This, and who the hell was in your corner advising you. The whole ordeal seems bizarre.
  5. I think for a lot of these guys dropping down a level means USL Championship.....UNLESS they can get similar money playing in the CPL then it just becomes a better option. At 25, he's at the pinnacle where he's gotta play every week or you have to consider why you're playing.
  6. Get in, and out. I prefer this than them keeping the guys on their roster to play minimal minutes only to then waive them. For the sake of 26” I hope he lands somewhere decent.
  7. comments like these have me thinking, does the CSA think like this? We the fans want to enjoy this monumental moment which has yet to take place, and has taken over 30 years…….but we’re still thinking about who’s next! This is me. I’m excited to finally see in my lifetime a World Cup where Canada is playing, but I’m still looking at the depth. I loved the recent friendly (well other than the pitch), and know that we definitely need to arrange more B friendlies (aka U23) to have them integrated into the program to sustain our future success. I may sound unappreciative, but qualifying was my only excitement/ expectation with this squad. Anything else that comes with it is a party. I’ll be satisfied when we aren’t an anomaly within Concacaf from youth to seniors. That’s how we take it to the next level and become World players.
  8. I think we’ll be surprised to know that Atiba doesn’t retire after the CNL or Gold Cup. He’ll have a great opportunity to go out on a real high. Same thing for Borjan…. However with both tournaments happening consecutively, we definitely will need to increase the pool.
  9. He's had a consistent run of games in the Ross County squad. At 21 yo's old, he might be someone that gets a look after the WC.
  10. There's only 10 teams, they usually have open dates and typically are the federation that is left out in the cold looking to play friendlies other than the 9 teams they usually face. It's been an issue for them. There's even been talks of them joining UEFA nations league.
  11. Not Conembol…. So we’ll have a great opportunity to schedule A friendlies against them. The key is being proactive and not trying to schedule it last minute.
  12. Thing with Fraser Vs Kaye is that Kaye is looking to advance or get forward. Fraser is always looking to drop. I like him, and his game, but those two are just not comparable as their games are different.
  13. Sponsorship money. Ability to negotiate cheaper appearance fees. Friendlies etc. Yes it does matter.
  14. In conclusion…it’s hard to make any judgements on this game the way things look. Nobody staked their claim to be on the plane.
  15. No one. The CSA have already subsidized women’s players within that league. The CSB, but they are business people, and less philanthropist. I agree, but this is an entirely different issue/conversation. Plainly put there isn’t enough interest to warrant the investment. Now you have sponsors coming in and making these feel good statements, but how much are they reaaallyyy investing to get these initiatives off the ground. I bet not enough.
