Redpunkfiddle reacted to Califax in AWAY TRIPS: Honduras, El Salvador, Costa Rica, Panama
Sorry mate, we'll be qualified by then.
(And if we're not, I'll be in my basement alone 'watching-not watching' the game through a knitted blanket with holes in it trying not to throw up.)

Redpunkfiddle reacted to Unnamed Trialist in 2021 Voyageurs Player of the Year
This has never, ever been the criteria on this board. You've been here long enough to know that.
The NT criteria is simply an eligibility requirement, nothing else, which happened to make sense when duals were being argued over BTW. But even then has been waived in previous years when we played very little.
We have simply voted as the name indicates, our player of the year. We have voted in years when the NT hardly played, and we voted Davies overwhelmingly for a Championship League victory. Just go back and look at the history of these votes and you can see that is clear.

Herdman with probably his most unexpected call-up yet:
49 y/o Left-Winger Justin Trudeau has been called up for the squads final game of the window. With the surprise decision, the health of Davies and Adekugbe has been put into question as Trudeau has been an effective tool down the left for years. Nevertheless, Herdman will have the back up to call on if need be. While Trudeau's style of play is relatively unknown, he has ample international experience under his belt given his momentary dual nationality with Saudi Arabia in October 2001, and most recently with India in February 2018.

I asked my girlfriend, who has a PhD in biology and specializes in studying Arctic plants (yes, they exist), about possible field conditions for the match:
"With my Arctic research hat on, I suspect the ground will not be that frozen because of water's latent heat effect. It takes a while for water in the ground to lose its heat and then freeze. The tarp, and then a layer of snow, will also insulate the ground, reducing the chance the ground will be frozen."

Maybe they are using the high altitude technique- show up 2 weeks before, or just before the game. Saves on boots and mufflers.

Redpunkfiddle reacted to beachesl in Edmonton - What will the players' wear?
It is kind of amazing. In the darkness of the past, for decades, some of us fans have, immaturely in hindsight, suggested setting matches in sub-zero tempertures as some Asian nations (Mongolia, North Korea and others) have done for advantage. Of course, It is not good for the player´s bodies or others. I have been guilty of yelling for this in despearation in the past. But...we are not desperate now.
So what happens? Through some blind administrative quirk, the dark sides of us get our wish when we least expect it, and we get Edmonchuck in mid-Novemeber without anybody in CONCACAF or FIFA raising a knowledgeable eyebrow, for a sidetest. Go figure, weirder than fiction.
If it causes a tie with Mexico, it would not be half-bad, but if it means a draw with an inferior Costa Rica team, it would be a tragedy.
Remember the drunken raves..."let´s schedule it for winter in Edmonton!" Be careful what you wish for. Hopefully, it will not stand in the way of more than 2 points.

LOL this is at least a happy ending to my story of giving Borjan my scarf only for him to immediately throw it back into the crowd...

True story: I lost my long-serving original Vs scarf in the craziness after Larin's goal in the Vancouver WCQ vs Honduras. Only to have Milan Borjan throw one straight to me at the end of the same match, one I take much better care of.

I am pretty sure by this point that we know that very cold weather isn't as debilitating as very hot weather. (up to a point of course). And, as people have pointed out, our players aren't exactly cold weather warriors.
I used to be on the freeze the hot weather country player wagon (woo! open up that roof at BC Place and show them Hondurans that 10C!) but having paid more attention to cold weather games with teams in our region, I don't think playing in that environment is an advantage with the type of athletes and physical play (running) that are competing on the field.
Sorry, competing on that artificial turf

You're still counting the '80s, as well. Thirty-three years is not 4 decades.

We should probably just be posting the links and title. It isn’t behind a paywall - the Ceeb is accessible by everyone, so we should be giving them to web traffic to reinforce the idea that there is interest in their Canadian soccer content. And that is aside from the whole liability issue.

I totally agree and keep saying this. Major clubs win top leagues often with very odd sets of results. Even if we were to only win one of the next two, we'd still probably be in 3rd spot, or at least tied. You don't know what path success takes until after it happens. You could argue we have been physically better than our rivals, but now we are going against a rival that may match us physically, or challenge us on set pieces and handle ours.
What makes me confident is that the only mishap, or misplayed part of a match, was the first half vs. Honduras. Since then, it has all be fine.

So many here talking about getting six points, even 7 from this window.
I personally think that if we come out with 4 we are still on track. Got to be sensible about this, not overdramatise things.
We'd have 9 points after six matches, with both of our toughest rivals already played away. That puts us on track to end up with 21 points in total. That would be very close to qualification, I think for sure it'd be a fourth place.
