Redpunkfiddle reacted to Obinna in Scott Arfield
I am not convinced about our midfield depth, so if Arfield is open to returning I personally wouldn't mind. On the other hand, if Herdman draws a line in the sand and refuses to select a player who never contributed at all to the qualifying campaign, I would understand that too. He did help build the program up to the point where we could go on that magnificent qualifying run, so while he technically never played a single qualifying game this cycle, he was still a key part of the program and I won't overlook that.
Now, when it comes to Kaye I agree he tends to run hot and cold. He's capable of great moments and capable of blunders (like the red against CR). I do acknowledge the ground he covers and his role as a defensive shield for the team, but couldn't we carry both Kaye and Arfield? I don't see why it needs to be one or the other.
The conversation should probably be about dropping Fraser for Arfield, not Kaye.

He’s entitled to play for whichever country he wants to. He owes nobody here an explanation. Watching grown adults acting like petulant whiny kids ( move this discussion to another thread, he’s dead to me, he’s only doing this because of the pressure from family ) because he made his own life decision is sad.

From what I saw, the concourse and washroom access for the Edmonton CanMNT games was nothing to write home about. If such is your taste at halftime.
Is there any large stadium that doesn't have long line ups when it is full?

Redpunkfiddle reacted to Obinna in Canada Pre-World Cup "friendlies" thread: news, gossip and speculation.
Is this fact or speculation? because it has never been clear to me from @RS. My assumption has always been that the deal between CSA and BMO is a fact, but whether that equates to similar or more profit than playing at a full BC Place is speculation.
If Rudi or anyone else can speak more to it, go for it!

Redpunkfiddle reacted to RS in Canada Pre-World Cup "friendlies" thread: news, gossip and speculation.
It's a fact that there's a sweetheart deal in place between BMO Field and Canada Soccer for games held there. There are public documents that bear this out.
I've heard from several different people over the years that games held elsewhere would have to be hugely attended to make the same money for the CSA that they would make at BMO. This is supported by the number of games held in Toronto vs. everywhere else.
I suspect a sold-out BC Place would bring in more revenue for the CSA, maybe even much more depending on the ticket prices, but there have been very few guaranteed sold-out dates held in this country to take such a risk up to this point. A mega-friendly against a top 10 nation would be among such smart "risks" to take.

Except RS has outlined how the business agreements for the CSA at BMO mean the profit opportunity is similar to what you could get at a higher capacity BC Place. And you can gouge in Toronto too. So, it won't surprise to go back there.

Based on the Montreal rumour I'm going to assume that the friendly will be Sunday June 5 in Toronto.

I'm glad we didn't qualify for a world cup before computer simulation websites were the norm.
It would have been agonizing to do actually work all morning instead of simulating our draw a hundred thousand times.

Yes but at the same time we now have things like novelty news generators for Arfield April fools to fill our time so it all comes out a wash.

See the pdf from the references here.
It has the dates. Just the times have to be set.

Well from what I’m reading in the link you provided, it seems to show what day the games are, just not times and locations, which is my original point. This is backed up by the dates and times of the knockout stage with groups A and B meeting first in the round of 16. The writing is small but if you zoom in it’s pretty clear. I suspect many here going aren’t trying to time their flight the day of a game. I can understand FIFA not releasing times/location immediately, but they aren’t going to play Group A, jump to F and then back through C. That would look ridiculous and would make a mockery of the schedule.

If Canada was in group C, which according to your link, would mean they play match day 2, they would play the Tuesday.

Some dude may have plugged in dates for matches on that wiki, but the same page states:
Unlike previous tournaments where the match venues and kick-off times for each fixture are set prior to the draw, the assignment of group fixtures for each matchday to a specific venue and kick-off time will only be made after the group stage draw and the teams of each specific fixture are known. This is possibly due to the close proximity of the venues, which will allow the organisers to optimise stadium allocation for spectators and kick-off times for television audiences.
    This article states the same:
    https://www.cbssports.com/soccer/news/fifa-world-cup-draw-explained-how-to-watch-date-time-teams-going-to-qatar-stadium-venues/
Due to proximity of venues, group fixture locations and timings will be decided after the draw to ensure stadium and spectator allocations.

And the official FIFA schedule page has no matches associated with dates:

    Re: Guyon's tweet.
This is getting a little silly. Canada is not going to choose to lose or draw. There is no universe where that happens. This group is going for the win, as always. If winning puts us in pot 3 and the draw is more difficult, so be it. We never, ever, play for a draw or a loss. That's not who we are.
