Aird25
2 hours ago, jonovision said: Ottawa and Halifax both need to basically average one 90 minute U21 on the field per game until the end of the season. Both might able to get away with stacking those minutes in the final few games for opposite reasons (Halifax not in playoff contention, Ottawa likely in a comfortable position by then). Kingston
If the consequence of not meeting the quota is being blocked from the playoffs, Halifax might not care but Ottawa is over the one player per game mark and will want to start making progress on their minutes. ray

Can somebody remind me what the penalty is for not meeting the U-21 minutes requirement? I seem to remember it means that teams that don’t meet the minimum minutes can’t participate in the playoffs. In which case, it looks like Halifax may have already thrown in the towel. They’re not likely to be in this year’s playoffs, so no need to play any more U-21 players this year. Are there any other penalties?

Are there any other penalties? Per the CPL website The minimum minute playing requirement for U-21 Domestic Players is a critical tenet of the League. As such, any team that fails to meet the 2,000-minute requirement over the course of the 2024 CPL Regular Season will be ineligible to participate in the 2024 CPL Playoffs. Any such team would also likely be assessed significant financial and other possible penalties. Kingston, Kadenge and Treppy2 1
jonovision
U21 minutes per remaining game required to meet quota: Vancouver: 27 Forge: 46 Valour: 58 Cavalry: 64 Ottawa: 81 Halifax: 124 As Valour have shown in the past and Pacific are showing this year, the real cheat code to easily achieving this is installing a U21 starting or rotational keeper. Aird25
I still hate this rule, and I haven't yet seen any evidence to suggest it's having any positive intended effects. Pacific's best players this season have been U21, but they weren't given minutes because of their age. They were given minutes because they were the best choice on a bad roster. I would have far rather supported a club that weren't bottom of the table though
