U Sports season has started, NCAA will start shortly.

Some freshmen of note : Gael De Montigny (Portland), Chimere Omeze (Syracuse),

Were these two not at CFM & TFC youth teams? Do you know if they were released by their MLS clubs or elected to go to US college & NCAA?

Yes, Gael with CFM reserves (Loic too) and Chimere with TFC U19. With CFM U23 disbanding, Loic and Gael would be considered overagers on the U18 team next year. I don't know about Chimere's situation.

Matteo Landicho-Correia is another one to mention. Attending Cleveland State University this fall, he was with Canada U17 at a couple of camps.

Guardiero too was at a camp. Another familiar name is Malick Daouda now at Penn State, played with JMR and co with the U15’s a while back

CHimere Omeze D-Freshman has 2 goals in his first 4 games, not too bad.. hes got Fortier (1G) there with him in Syracuse.  Jeremy Opong F-Senior (Brampton) has 2 goals already in Seattle with preseason top 100 D-Senior Manetta, couple of teams to watch.

Do you know why Omeze opted for NCAA? He seemed like a very bright prospect at TFC and for Canada's youth teams.

The other day I was on a flight with the Wake Forest team prior to playing UCF, asked one of the players sitting beside me who their Canadians were. Turned out there were a couple, including Pariss Mitchell who had the game tying goal the next day. So did a little digging and here's what I found, not sure who's been discussed on this site before or not.

Pariss Mitchell, F, FR (Colorado Rapids II/Markham, ON)
Amoni Thomas, D, FR (Whitecaps Academy/Edmonton, AB)
Sidney Paris, F, GR (TFC Academy/Vaughan SC/Oakville, ON) - has been capped by Puerto Rico

Maybe to get out of the TFC system? 🤣 go NCAA and then Super Draft? I don’t know how that works

The rules keep changing so I'm not sure how it actually works either, but seem to remember that MLS teams get first right of refusal over a player from their academy that goes the NCAA route.

So, TFC could sign Omeze straight out of the NCAA system without him being subjected to the draft?  Not sure if the player has a choice whether to sign with the developing team or opt to go into the draft.

As this seems to be one of our best pathways of producing top CMNT Players , does anyone have insight on who looking like the next wave at the MLS Draft?

Also love the compliment of CPL now after college if MLS doesn’t work out

I would hope that the CPL can scout and sign players at a younger age 16/17/18 and accelerate their development in a pro environment. Its concerning that some CPL teams are struggling to meet the U21 mins.
