This is pretty huge for us.  This is our chance to advance into the knockout rounds in a major international tournament.  Chile will be tough as hell with everything left to play for.   A win over us means they advance unless Peru pull off an unlikely upset over Argentina by a greater goal margin - so you know they are going to be going for it right from the opening whistle.  I have seen a few games where the South American teams come flying out of the gate and don’t let up and I expect that approach in this one.  We better be prepared to battle for all 90+ minutes.  

But we have the team to do it.  Just need to execute.

Their right back is 36 and has played 177 out of 180 minutes so far. If he starts again then I’d love to see Shaffeburg in from the beginning.

Something needs to be said. It would be foolish to underestimate the Chilean attack because of a scoreless draw with Peru. 

Look at their recent friendlies and the amount of goals produced. Davila and Vargas have been productive. Sanchez is an experienced and quality player still playing among the world's best.

We need to be compact and see out the match. A win is always the goal, but a draw will do.

^Agreed. A narrative has taken hold that we are “better” than Peru and Chile (mostly because their stars are old). It can be very easily argued that we in fact weren't/ aren’t better, and that's before considering how important these games are to our opponents. We probably shouldn’t be considered favourites in either game, and we saw evidence of that Wednesday.

The obvious is to weather the storm, and counter. They know it, we know it. It's a major opportunity to see how Marsch and the players handle this situation.

Because it’s been scientifically proven there’s a direct correlation between some random guy following the CMNT across the country and their on-field results: In Atlanta I went for a 30-minute run the morning of the match and Canada lost; in KC I went for a 40-minute run and Canada won. This morning in Orlando I went for a 35-minute run to ensure a draw in tonight’s match.

Y’all (as they’d say here) can thank me later.

There are lots of options.  Another is to put Richie at LB and Phonzie up top to start and run at their RB (maybe later he shifts into the back so Richie can be subbed out early due to fitness and to bring Shaff’s fresh legs into the equation in attack).

My thoughts:

I haven't had a chance to follow Chile's matches, but one would think they started the tournament with a similar mindset and plan to us.  Thinking a loss vs Argentina, go for a result vs Peru and us.  Is it possible they were cruising vs Argentina and coming into this game relatively in good shape and everything going according to plan?  

We're younger and quicker, but they have a lot more experience than us at this level and type of tournament.  They know we can out run and out play them.  They'll be looking to outsmart us, it's gonna be dirty.

If we go by odds, I'm thinking Shaff is due for an off game and will be mostly ineffective vs Chile and Tajon & Kone tear it up.  The guy that needs to stay the most consistant is Crepeau.

Just one thing: Can you segment daily runs / go for another five mins and guarantee the W?

Should be a cracker this. I'm not optimistic but that's nothing new for me!

Chile is the type of side we should be measuring up against in where we are at. For where we want to be, getting past them and out of the group would be massive. 

We will absolutely have to be at our best. We simply can't panic and lose all control of the basics when we are pressed hard back and brutalized like we were against Peru. 10 or so degrees cooler will hopefully help.

I love the shaff but not convinced he is at his best for us as a weapon by starting. Big chance for him to prove otherwise if he is handing a start.

I feel like we have had good experiences with this Stadium in Orlando. Cyle Larin has scored multiple goals here in his time with Orlando. Eustaqio made his debut. I remember we played a bunch of games in Orlando during Covid including some important wins to get us to the qualifying stage. It SHOULD feel like home to our guys and very familiar.
