Copa America Other Matches + Group A

"Everything, but a goal!"  I'll agree with the commentators...it was a good match, good to watch, especially while it held some promise of Canada's next opponent.

And my ultimate takeaway is that Canada, as lone remaining CONCACAF team truly in contention, can only benefit from any backroom deals to ensure some measure of CONCACAF success!  Or maybe the hammer just comes down now, and wow, that would be quite a hammer given what we've seen so far...it is a fantastic tournament to be part of!

I hope the qualification format is retained from time to time.

P.S.  Apologies to Panama...they are also squarely placed to benefit from any backroom deals.  Maybe they deserve it more too.

I think all the cards are wiped based on what Spitfire posted earlier.

Don't think so, found the rules. All cards are wiped out for the knockouts, but anyone accumulating cards leading to a sanction has to serve it in the next match. We performed another miracle with 8 yellows and no player getting two. Socialism at work.

Article 143º - The cautions applied by the referee shall be recorded and the player or official who receives a total of two yellow cards consecutively or alternately shall be suspended for the next match of the respective phase. However, the accumulation of yellow cards from the Group Stage becomes null and void from the start of the Knockout Stage (Quarter-finals onwards). However, a player or official who, during the last match of the Group Stage, receives a caution which, due to accumulation, results in his automatic suspension for the following match, shall serve the suspension in the first match of the Knockout Stage.

No, one yellow card is wiped after Group stage, but if you're on two, you miss the next game.

Im not following? I interpret both yellows being wiped, not just one.

When are yellow cards reset in the Copa América 2024?

Accumulated yellow cards are wiped from players’ records following the conclusion of the quarter-finals, with the aim of reducing the likelihood of suspensions in the final. The only way a player can be banned for the Copa América 2024 final is if they receive a red card (directly, or two yellows) in the semi-finals.

I’d be inclined to believe the regulations published by the governing body over a news outlet. Just sayin.

I quoted both official and the news outlet

The first is wrong.

Sorry missed that. That is confusing. Although the complete regulation quoted by UT does seem clear. Get two in the group, serve it next game. Don’t have two by the knockout round and they are wiped.

can someone point to any sources which say only one card is removed? Below is the official verbiage. I interpret it that both yellow cards are wiped after qfs, not just one.

I must be having a slow one. I still dont understand the difference. another source below

What are the rules around cards at the 2024 Copa America?

A player will be suspended for one game after receiving yellow cards in two separate matches.

Accumulated yellow cards are reset after the group stage — a more forgiving rule than the European Championship, which is taking place at the same time, where the yellow card tally includes the last-16 and quarter-final stages too.

This means a player can receive two bookings over the course of the Copa America but not receive a suspension if one caution is during the group stages and the other is during the knockout stages.

A player or official who receives a second yellow card of the tournament in the final group stage match will be suspended for the quarter-finals.

The last sentence answers it.

It's a paraphrase of the sentence in the rules I was talking about.

Then lets say Ecuador take out Argentina and we get another team we could probably handle in semis!

That's when I'll realize we are in a computer simulation and the computer programmer is a geek who loves trolling his digital creations.

Isnt that the same as all cards are wiped after the qf? Ie, if you get your second yellow in the qf, it doesnt matter because yellow card accumulation rule is wiped after the game so everyone starts the semis having accumulated 0 yellows in the the turni. Only way you can miss the final is straight red or double yellow in the semis.

No because you could get a yellow in quarters and the semis.

Again don't believe the first source you put up, the rules don't say that.
