Definitely superior but there are still enough relatively weak links in there for the far bit to be a dubious assertion IMO. For example, having Craig Forest, Paul Stalteri and Jason Devos available from the 2000 Gold Cup winning team plus Tomasz Radzinski would probably have been a bit of an upgrade on some of what was happening in Qatar in team selection terms. Richard Hastings not so much obviously although I don't think he would have looked as out of place in the left back role as Kyle Hiebert did late on against France.
