Maybe I'm missing something, but this is CMNT's first ever matches in Netherlands and France, right?

World Cup against France, off the top of my head.

Edit:

and this

I love history, even somewhat recent.

Lineups -

Canada

Craig Forrest

Colin Miller, Ian Carter, Iain Fraser, Randy Samuel, Frank Yallop

Lyndon Hooper, Geoff Aunger, Nick Dasovic

Eddy Berdusco, Carlo Corazzin

Netherlands

Ed de Goey

Ronald Koeman, Frank de Boer, Stan Valckx

Wim Jonk, Frank Rijkaard, Jan Wouters

Marc Overmars, Bryan Roy, Ronald de Boer, Dennis Bergkamp

Pretty stacked there. They fact I know all but 1 of those names 30 - 30! - years later says something.

I wonder what Koeman, their current manager, remembers of that.

Opta analysis says Netherlands & France are similar in style. So,  good style prep for Argentina and tactically similar to Belgium/Croatia World Cup matches.

In Euro qualifying, the Dutch and the French direct play was around the median amongst Euro qualified teams. But their passes per sequence was way above median.

As I see it, this will be our better match. I think it'll be more entertaining too. I opted not to go to this one and go to Bordeaux closer to home, but I'm not as thrilled by that one.

A key factor is we'll start our best 11 (well maybe 8 in broad consensus) but vs France we'll have to rotate the squad more.

France is also more dangerous for us than the Dutch.

In any case, I think for one of these we'll get a result.

I like that Marsch is motivational in a natural way without being a spin doctor. He doesn't say anything that is BS. Unlike Herdman, he's used to a high work ethic, because he's coached full seasons, not 6-8 games a year (Herdman is a novice at club football, and may be working it out). Marsch is a more natural coach because he's been a player, he does not seem to be compensating, not trying to prove anything, not getting his ego in the way. So far, pretty good. I'll wait until I disagree with his player selection or mid-game decisions starting 24 hours from now to change my tune.

Brutal first match? Arguably a brutal first month. Peru and Chile alone would be have been a tough test. In this scenario those games might end up being a relief.

Hopefully it works out that way :)
