In the olden days the royals would give the unwashed masses the backhander, they don't do that now. There are articles which say the Queen developed her own wave to prevent carpal tunnel which makes me wonder if it wasn't a slow news day and someone had to make up a story. In this video you see the backhander, less pronounced as usual but the rebellious Margaret (on the right) shows she is a Princess of the people and gives the more progressive palm out.
