Thread for Questioning CPL Attendance Numbers 2024

No website number for Ottawa vs Halifax:

https://canpl.ca/matchcentre/asx2k6pj824t16pxy49rqoo44/highlights

but announced as 5662 according to a poster in the game thread on here. No obvious gaps during the Onesoccer coverage in the sections that appeared sold out on Ticketmaster unlike what tends to happen elsewhere in Ontario. Given the endzone sections were far from full this number seems on the high side to me but I'm not sure how tickets to "the Cabin" are handled and whether there's scope for a lot of people standing on the concourse on that basis.

5662 is official - announced at the stadium.

Also many were hiding in the shade behind the seats as the sun was fierce and felt more like July than end of September.

Doubt it can be much more than 1000 actual from what's visible in the highlights.

"...an announced crowd of 2,702 at Princess Auto Stadium Monday."

May have been a few (or 1700???) no shows due to the weather

Here's my rationale. The active sections from corner to corner opposite the camera have about 7000 seats. Some of these sections were almost completely empty for this game, which isn't normally the case. I tend to try to judge roughly what percentage of the seats in active use in ticketing terms are actually being sat in. I am definitely not attempting to count individual spectators or blue dots at any point.

You get a decent view where Valour games are concerned and midway through either half is when I think it's reasonable to try to gauge that because most people should be in their seats at that point. I don't think 1 seat in 7 actually occupied would be too far off as a rough estimate for last nights' game. Earlier in the season I tended to be deliberating more over whether something like 1 in 4 was reasonable.

I agree 1700 no shows would be very high. In North American terms, an announced attendance number is usually a tickets distributed rather than a tickets scanned number. Is it possible that there are categories of Blue Bomber fan that get Valour tickets thrown their way whether they actually want them or not? Back in the day ISTR "ransom packs" was what TFC fans referred to as having Marlies tickets shoved in their direction along with the soccer tickets they actually wanted.
