I don't think the ratings mattered so much for the seeding here. Mexico is ranked below Uruguay. For the 2016 edition, Mexico and the US were ranked below 4 other teams but still put in pot 1.

In a general sense, it will still matter for Canada of course.

If you believe Wikipedia, the process was as follows:

"For the draw, the four teams in Pot 1 were pre-seeded into their respective groups, determined as follows:

  • The reigning Copa América champions, Argentina, were seeded into Group A
  • The reigning CONCACAF Gold Cup champions, Mexico, were seeded into Group B
  • The highest ranked CONCACAF team in the October 2023 FIFA World Rankings, the United States, was seeded into Group C
  • The next-highest ranked CONMEBOL team in the October 2023 FIFA World Rankings, Brazil, was seeded into Group D

The remaining 12 teams were placed into Pots 2–4 according to their October 2023 World Rankings, with placeholders for the 2 CONCACAF participants yet to be determined at the time of the draw each being automatically placed into Pot 4"

So a higher FIFA rating could have mattered, (if we hadn't lost to Jamaica, and had to go in via playoff with T&T) - potentially improving our chances of making the next round, setting up a match with one of Bolivia/Jamaica/Costa Rica or Paraguay at the group stage

Is the logic here that Sirois is better served by playing matches at club level rather than ridin' the pine at Copa?

Maybe there is an extreme hardship rule if a keeper gets hurt mid tournament?

Besides that we can make changes up to 24 hours before the first game.

I was talking more specifically about the Pot 1 seeding for the Copa (shocker! Both tournaments ended up with Argentina/Brazil/Mexico/US in pot 1!), but yeah ranking could impact Canada's pot in the future. Though I also think most of us aren't unhappy with the pot (challenging but 2 beatable opponents, and also non-CONCACAF).

Think it's reasonable to assume that the players we are seeing arriving are part of the 26. Can't imagine they would cut guys on the 1st day of camp. Unless there is an injury reserve group, who will be part of the camp.

Now that our guys have landed and are camped out in Atlanta already before Copa America begins...I wonder if any of you fans are out there in Atlanta? Hopefully you all are able to watch the boys practice

Draw whatever conclusion you like: the current betting odds for a Canada win/draw/loss against Argentina are nearly identical to what they were for Scotland ahead of their match against Germany.
