Every Christmas season the U20 hockey is played  for the WC and like clockwork, the narrative of the newly formed team is unity- players that compete against one another are together in the proverbial boat once this tourney begins

Footy- not so much- so I wonder if it is endemic in the nature of the 2 sports as the footy players are looking to grow themselves professionally anywhere in the globe whilst the hockey players have only an NHL path to succeed - or the, ahem, culture within the teams/sports
