JAVIERF
Well there you go. I didn't know this new left back Gutierrez . But the coach realised they need a natural left back. Adekugbe if he gets injured suspended ? Miller and Kennedy are left foot players but too tall too slow to play there. Alphonso is too good to play there. As for Pasher and Teibert I rate them too and Akindele is very good. Or used to be very good

You are correct sir. However, note that Miller regularly played left back for Orlando City and also for Canada in his first few caps. Kennedy meanwhile has played their occasionally for his 2.Bundesliga side. Both are natural center backs though. Also, I would rate Miller's speed as average, but Kennedy is one of the teams fastest players. I would play Gutierrez over both at left back in a heartbeat. I really love what Guti offers. I just wanted to give you an update on our new players. I recall your username and believe you were following us in previous cycles. Gutierez was even called in to the camp for LB cover. Tissot hasnt been near a camp for a long long time which is why it seemed out of left field to many of us. Glad to have the insight though. On Bale you know what I meant.... And don't write off the welsh yet, they have Austria ...and dowm here we have plenty of Welsh community living in Patagonia that will celebrate if they make it. Obinna
To be fair to @JAVIERF Tissot was a very respectable player for us. I wouldn't call him "class" per se, but for a while he was a regular call up and he did well. Let's not forget he was regularly used at Montreal scoring 5 goals in 44 league games, despite sometimes playing as a left back, and then DC United thought enough of him to acquire him in an era where few Canadians were playing with American MLS teams. He never found his feet at DC and dropped down to the USL and ultimately the CPL, but he won 13 caps for us from 2015-17. Of the players @Shway mentioned, I would say Abzi, Gutierrez and Awuah are the most specialized for left back. Abzi and Awuah both play in the Canadian Premier League. Abzi is a younger, taller, more athletic player with a fantastic shot and great technique. I think he's 23 years old and has played his entire professional career in the CPL. He's played for our U-23 team and our futsal team if I am not mistaken, but has yet to earn a call for the full national team yet. Awuah started out at NYCFC in Major League Soccer but has been in the CPL now for 3 years. Smaller and less athletic, but also has good technique and is quick over short distances. He's in the middle of his career (26 years old) and is now on trial with Vancouver Whitecaps, so maybe he gets signed and finds his way into the national team picture. He's been part of a few camps, but has never won a cap. Guiterrez you may know more about (I haven't seen the previous pages of this thread to know what your knowledge of him is), but he is Chilean-Canadian, born in Quebec but raised in Chile and developed by Colo Colo. He has played roughly 30 times for them and also went out on loan a few times. He won a few Chile youth caps and is now in MLS with Vancouver Whitecaps. In my opinion he's the only one of the 3 with a national team future, though I really would like for Abzi to find his way, eventually. Cristian is highly technical and intelligent, but average speed and physicality. Excellent crosser of the ball. All 3 of the players I mentioned are more skilled with the ball at their feet than Kennedy or Miller. I agree with you Kennedy is not a left back and would only play there in an emergency. Same goes for Miller, but he's a little more experienced at left back.
JAVIERF
As for left backs left wingbacks. It has to be a specialist there. Has to be fast or if not a bit skillful tricky on the ball with good technique and able to cross the ball with accuracy. Example. Dennis Irwin we all have watched him play. He wasn't strong enough, wasn't fast enough, wasn't so technically gifted , but he took penalty kicks and free kicks, so he had a golden peg. But what the Irish had was what we call football intelligence above the average of footballers . He wasn't even a left foot player, but played there as left back for United for 10 years. Guiterrez and Adekugbe are both natural left backs. Both are in our team selection for this window. Both are left footed players with good technique and have good enough speed. Adekugbe is faster and is more "tricky" with the ball at his feet, but is not really a "dribbler" like Davies or Buchanan. Guiterrez is probably slightly more intelligent, but Adekugbe has a very respectable football IQ as well. I think Gutierrez probably has a better delivery, but Adekugbe is good here too. Adekugbe is in form and has become a regular starter for Canada, while Gutierrez is out of season, has struggled with injuries, and hasn't won a cap yet. I feel very good with Gutierrez backing up Adekugbe, and Laryea can also play there despite being a right foot, but if you insist we need a specialist at left back, I would say we already have 2 and that's enough for this round of games. canuckgbp and GasPed
