It would seem that the most ideal time to take a yellow for Eustaquio would be in the Mexico match (suspended vs. Honduras).

You can make the argument that Honduras away might be our most winnable road game remaining - perhaps even more winnable than Mexico home. Then USA at home is important. Then El Salvador away is probably as winnable as Honduras. There’s never a good time to lose Eustaquio, so I don’t think there’s any attempt to hide him in this game. He’ll start, and he won’t come out unless we’re up by 2 or 3.

Perfect timing that the front page of the Edmonton Sun has a coupon for all your banana-hammock needs

Eustaquio, Larin, Buchanan and Johnston are positive this front page is outdated by at least 6 months.

That headline should read at the very least as the super-scintillating sextet.

You can always take layers off........you can't always put layers on if you don't bring them :)

Was at the last Valour home game and though the thermometer read 8 degrees I layered up and was glad I did. The difference being about 8 degrees, and 46 thousand bodies who most likely won't be in their seats all that much.

I assume the cremation bit is for Costa Rica and Mexico.  Like the Sam Magee poem says at least they will be warm.

(Never change Edmonton Sun...a friend of mine might remember delivering it as a young teenager and checking out the escort ads, every once in while.)

Costa Rica haven't left the country and had a training session today:

Three of their players still do not have visas! ( I believe Costa Ricans need visas to enter the USA but not Canada but the team will be flying to Edmonton via Houston ).

Wouldnt have been an issue if the game was in Toronto. Edmonton already showing its home field advantage

As one who lives here in Edmonton, go with dressing for the cold.  The game isn't until 7pm.  Once the sun goes down (5pm), the temp will drop and won't feel like the posted daytime high. Plus this allows for more potential taking-pants-off opportunities.

Minus 1 is considered "extreme conditions" according to the translation. I love it! 😂

Why can't they fly direct? Surely they're chartering and not flying commercial.

So it says the only ones without visas are the new call-ups, perhaps because the rest got theirs in order for the US game last window.

Their probable starting keeper is Moreira, who plays for Alajuelense in the CR league.

As for "extremes", the article does not mention weather in fact, it just quotes the former Fire player Calvo, that we are able to push these matches to extreme conditions and they have to be ready to handle them. So that could also be crowd pressure.

Their call-up really only features three strikers.

I think it’s important to just let Stephen be Stephen. Hopefully his play doesn’t warrant a card but if he gets a yellow, so be it. Adopt the ‘cross that bridge when’ mentality. In this moment the CR points are more pressing and ultimately more important than the Mexico points. Don’t get me wrong, I want to beat the green sombreros BAD! But being pragmatic our points against the teams who are not Mexico are more important than the points against Mexico (Mexico will be in the top three whereas the other nations are fighting to crack the top three).

But this discussion certainly demonstrates this team NEEDS Stephen Eustaquio throughout.

II was trying to do some research into Anthony Contreras, the 21 year old striker who they’ve brought in. He is currently the joint top scorer in the Costa Rican league, despite playing on loan at 10th place (of 12) Guanacasteca. He’s also the only forward on the roster younger than 29.

So far, no video, but I accidentally ran into this gem.

whats up with the dashed lines running up the field?

Turf doesn't look like it will look good on tv. Gridiron lines spruces up even the worst turf fields. But once removed, even if all the lines are properly removed, only newly laid turf tend look good. Apparently, it didn't look good for rugby 7s as per twitter chatter.

I should say regarding the broadcast. Sportsnet will likely join it in session after the Oilers/Flames are finished. Both of their games start at 5 and will wrap up around 7:30 probably.

Just checked the Sportsnet listings, and on the four regional channels they are showing Canada vs. Panama in 30, followed by a 30 minute pre-game, followed by the full match.
