red card
A NSL competitor for players, USL SL is going in a different direction in terms of media rights. All of their 115 matches will be streamed on 1 platform named Peacock. NBC may decide to put some matches on their linear networks but nothing mentioned today. No financial terms mentioned either. Peacock has over 30m subscribers which is behind P+, Hulu, Prime & Netflix. But it is the home of the Premier League and shows World Cups/US national team matches in Spanish. It has the Olympics, NFL and soon NBA/WNBA. NWSL in the USA is on Prime, CBS/CBSSN/P+, Ion and a chunk is streamed free on NWSL+. https://www.uslsuperleague.com/news/2024/06/13/usl-super-league-and-peacock-ink-multiyear-media-rights-agreement-as-part-of-new-and-expanded-nbcuniversal-streaming-technology-partnership/ narduch
red card
FIFPro survey of 736 players shows NSL salaries will be more than competitive. Caveat is that it included players from non-women football powers like Botswana, Chile & Fiji and sample size for most countries was low. Only 72% were pros. 74% earned < US$19k/yr. Over half were earning <US$5k/yr. 27% have a secondary job. Australia: all players make below NSL's C$50k min Brazil: About 90% make below NSL min. Won't get star players as 6% make >US$90k. 171 players responded. England: 70% make below NSL min but only 27 players responded. 7.4% make over US$90k. Mexico: About 90% make below NSL min. 1.4% make over US$180k but then the next highest paid players are only making US$50-60k. Sweden: About 92% make below NSL min. No player makes over US$60k. USA: Likely about 30% make below NSL min. Only 27 players responded and none of the top earners responded to the survey as no one reported a salary >US$120k. https://fifpro.org/en/supporting-players/competitions-innovation-and-growth/global-employment-market-for-women-s-football/new-report-illustrates-level-of-multiple-job-holding-among-elite-women-footballers Edited June 18 by red card narduch

We are not a serious football nation 🙄 Hmmm you would think our fine feathered friend would be all over that, he hates when an organization has high hopes to compete and succeed vs another. They should know their place, become a regional bus league full of nwsl farm clubs just like what he wants for the men. ray
red card
A few Tides notes via Wanderers Notebook: Ticketing campaign to start in August to leverage Olympics. Ops dept almost fully staffed. Players to be signed late summer to fall. Coaches in a few months. People have stopped them in the streets. Potential players have reached out. Burying the lede: “We’re very confident that (the Wanderers Grounds) will be where we’re going to play, we’ll just have to get our contract completed with HRM,” explained Sherlock. “They’ll get a contract in place and we’ll be off to the races.” https://wanderersnotebook.ca/2024/06/20/tickets-coach-shopping-and-contracts-an-inside-look-at-the-halifax-tides-path-from-launch-party-to-matchday/ Kent and narduch

I had some spare time in the west end yesterday so I ventured over to Lamport to scope things out. For those who haven't been, the stands look like the below: They're a very bare-bones concrete with bench seating on top. As it stands there's no markings for seating and it's usually general admission - this was how Wolfpack managed tickets, anyway. The press box is also bare-bones. It's possible that this area is electrified but I didn't venture up and can't confirm. The wood platforms are what would be used for camera bays as there are none built into the stands on either side for cameras to exist. This is an entry into the concourse underneath the stand. It wasn't open but I recall it being pretty dark and cramped when I visited previously. If there is any water damage internally like there is externally then it would need work to be brought up to professional standards. The doors on the inside still have Wolfpack branding on them. At the bottom of the stand there is standing water and water damage (spalling?) which would need to be resolved. There are also plants growing in some areas of the stand. The tiling on the exterior has holes and will need to be replaced I would imagine. Many are broken with moss and plants growing on them. The encampments on the exterior of the stadium have been removed. I don't know if it's possible to see in these photos but the pitch is not flat. In the first photo above the pitch works away and downwards towards the end zone. In the second photo above it plateaus in the middle before sliding away to both sides in touch. It would need to be relaid to play flat. Detail of pitch. Not sure how old but looks in good condition aside from the uneven issues noted above. Is Lamport a usable stadium? Definitely, but it needs a lot of work externally and presumably even more internally. ray, narduch, phresh and 2 others 2

The crazy ting about Lamport is that’s it’s probably North America’s first soccer specific stadium , it was built by the city for soccer back in the I think mid 1970’s . Joe MacCarthy
I remember her stint at the CFL, IIRC she brought a lot of innovation to the league messaging. She will be a good hire. Canuckia
