InglewoodJack
Can’t say I like it, especially because apparently Laval was interested too. You can definitely bounce back from this, but yeah. He’s fully in the Sam Piette development funnel right now. Wouldn’t hate Montreal giving him a shot if France doesn’t work out. Obinna
narduch
He basically only played 5th tier the past 2 seasons. 3rd tier is probably where he needs to be. If he tears it up they can always recall him and loan him to Ligue 2 Edited July 11, 2023 by narduch Jack1997, The Real Marc, Olympique_de_Marseille and 5 others
Corazon
Let's hope he has a similar trajectory as Eustaquio. At the same age of Smith currently (20), Stephen Eustaquio was playing 2nd division in Portugal. Borjans Sweatpants, johnyb and Obinna
rydermike
Nice probably wants him guaranteed time. They probably thought he'd get it with QRM, but he didn't, so rather than send him to another D2 team, only for him to play D5 with the Bs again, D3 seems a better bet. Like narduch said, they can always recall and re-loan him to D2 in January if he plays and plays well and theres interest. Better to play D3 than not play in D2 Kadenge, Corazon, Obinna and 1 other

Footyeh
A player like this should seriously consider the MLS route. Even if it means one season in Next Pro. He's quality, could easily play for the 3 Canadian MLS teams based on lack of domestic talent in either CB or CDM. Shway
What number is he? Nvm I was looking at the wrong team. Didn't realize he got loaned to a 3 division team. Edited July 15, 2023 by Shway
TOcanadafan
Last season must have really set him back - not getting any game time. This guy was miles ahead of everyone else on the U20 team. Kind of disappointing he’s been loaned to the 3rd tier, but I guess the positive is he will get playing time and a chance to get back to form / improvement. There was an interview last year that was how they were working on getting him around a first team only as education rather than being boomeranged back and forth, he did so, he’s now doing first team minutes. dyslexic nam
I know he hasn’t had a meteoric rise but I still have hope he can be a top player. He was so clearly above everyone else on our team at the Olympic qualifiers (I think that is what those were) that he has to have solid potential. aredding77, gator, toontownman and 3 others
Obinna
He's playing 3rd division in France right? It's not exactly the English League One but it's still probably on par or even better than a lot of first divisions in Europe. The fact he's playing every game now is very encouraging. He's still the property of Nice, so maybe he can follow up this loan with another at a better level. Key is that he must be playing regularly. gigi riva, cronaldo7, WestHamCanadianinOxford and 8 others

CF Montreal apparently offered him a loan last season but the player rejected it. Who knows if it would've went well, but playing MLS is certainly better than having not played in Ligue 2 and now finding himself in the 3rd tier. The player may have rejected Montreal because he felt it was more important to drop further down to play regularly. MLS is arguably stronger than Ligue 2, so the possibility of back-to-back loans with few minutes would have been high.
InglewoodJack
Not sure how many more minutes he could’ve played for a very good CF Montreal team last year either. Miller, Camacho, Corbo, Waterman- hard to play less than he did for Quevilly, but those guys are certifiably better players than whoever he was being benched for in Ligue 2. Even as a DM you had Wanyama holding it down, Piette- just not sure how he would’ve played. Obinna, toontownman, gator and 5 others

Probably. Good news is that MLS enhances it's reputation with each passing year. I think sometimes it's easy for us to forget not all leagues have such continual growth. Many leagues around the world have stagnated and some are actually getting worse, not better. We are very fortunate to have MLS and the CPL as well, which has also seen steady improvements so far in its young life. In Justin Smiths case playing in Ligue 3 is not that bad he is only 20 , and he is playing reguarly which is a good thing , If He continues to improve he should move up the ladder in France . But at the same time MLS is not a bad option Edited September 11, 2023 by gigi riva johnyb, costarg and Corazon
