narduch
Ligue 2 starts July 30. That would give Smith about a month to impress for a September senior call up. Obinna, toontownman, costarg and 5 others

Unnamed Trialist
I think this takes him out of the NT picture for Qatar. Mind you, I never thought a guy playing in 2nd tier Netherlands should have been part of the mix for the NT either. Unless we have some injuries. Or some players have moved out of the picture (I have some doubts about the Cornelius-Herdman relationship). Another possibility is that somehow he really stands out, which I doubt he will, unless the team somehow does extremely well too. But it is good for his development, he will definitely grow, and if Nice are happy and find a place for him on the 1st team next season, it'll have been well worth it. johnyb

With a 23-man roster I would tend to agree but with a 26-man roster, I'm not so sure. He can play CB as well as CDM so he offers that flexibility. Who do you bring in if Piette or Hutchinson are injured? Herdman has relied upon Liam Fraser who is in 2nd division Belgium. If he truly plays to what we all believe his potential is, then simply the fact that he is in Ligue 2 is not enough to disqualify him from a possible call-up. EDIT: Just to be clear, he is on loan for one year with no purchase option. https://www.ogcnice.com/fr/article/121736/justin-smith-prete-a-qrm.html https://qrm.fr/justin-smith-prete-par-logc-nice-l1/ Edited July 1, 2022 by Olympique_de_Marseille Unnamed Trialist, Corazon, Dominic94 and 3 others

But I'm just basing it on the club. They are modest and will likely be mid-table at best. He won't have it easy to show well, or stand out. It is a bit like Kennedy in B2, it is not clear he is doing great for the club (though he seemed to be early last season, then got injured), but we brought him in regardless. Ligue 2 is a step down though. But I think he'll develop marvellously well, for him it is a good move.

frmr
Smith is my dark horse for Qatar. Of all the young players who are on the fringe, I have the highest hopes for him. dyslexic nam
Of the next generation (setting aside the fact that he isn’t that much younger than some of our first-teamers), he is the one who looks most like a sure bet to “make it”. There is no way he doesn’t become a big part of the CMNT going forward IMO. canuckgbp, Jack1997, Corazon and 3 others
Shway
It's funny because a lot of us were having him shoed-in a CB...but he's clearly a box to box midfielder. Jack1997
