Steven Sandor isn’t a YouTuber, and he doesn’t go by “Soccer Steve” as far as I know.

I have no idea why someone would only want to “validate” your point privately when Sandor’s a pretty well-known Edmonton soccer voice (and a fairly level-headed one, at that).

Just curious, are you able to edit posts without the annoying "Just edited by" line appearing below the post?

The first part I can now confirm (not the same guy) as for Soccer Steve is this Steve Sandor

I will apologize if I have mistaken his identity but I certainly won't for the "articles" he wrote.

I have no idea who the guy being referenced in 2005 is. It may be Sandor, but he definitely wouldn’t have been a YouTuber back then.

Where you caught my attention was when you linked him with some anti-Edmonton conspiratorial stuff. That’s never been my impression of Sandor.

Yes, although the mods will still see that on my posts.

Thank you for being truthful, it would be nice if the rest of us could have that for five minutes as a grace period to fix typos, etc

I don’t know if that’s even an option. Someone with higher-level access than I would have to look into it.

Soccer pitch specialists form consortium ahead of World Cup 2026 - constructconnect.com

.....
"The consortium’s founding members, STRI, DA Hogan and Associates, and Sports Fields Inc., will look to assist venues in providing natural grass fields in conformance with the standards required by FIFA, the event organizer. The members have provided design, construction, management, maintenance and inspection of sports facilities, turf fields and international tournaments in North America and around the globe for decades, stated a recent release.

As someone who triple checks, posts, and then immediately sees I’ve made multiple spelling errors, a grace period would be very much welcomed if it’s possible to implement.

Atlanta is one of the 10 US host cities and they have been considered ever since we won the bid to host in 2018

June?  first we heard that the final host cities would be announced by end of March.  Then we heard early April.   Then it was around mid May.  Now for the first time we are hearing June...

Other than the nerds on this site, not sure many people care that this announcement keeps getting pushed back.

They aren't building any new stadiums from scratch anyways so they do have more time to make the decision.

My speculation is they aren't happy with some of the American bid cities either.

There are 17 bids in the US.  I’m sure that there are varying issue there as well.
But yes,  I do wonder why there was a need to announce the host cities this year even given that there won’t be any new stadiums built.

Edit.:  there are really 16 cities left in the running in the US.  There have been more confirmations that Washington DC will back the Baltimore bid.

I think this all but eliminates Edmonton. Commonwealth needs too much work (mainly in hospitality areas) to be put in the same conversation as B.C. Place and BMO.

B.C. Place doesn't need much in terms of renovations other than adding grass and BMO has funding from the province, feds and MLSE to increase that stadium to 40,000 plus. I bet you BMO looks completely different four years from now and it'll likely be home to all Canadian soccer games going forward unless other stadiums can guarantee grass pitches.

I think your vision for BMO is bang-on, but I still question if this means Edmonton is virtually eliminated from consideration.   I would like to think that the events in November would have cast their bid in a very positive light and that there would be some loyalty to the fact that they have been a part of this bid process since the outset.   Maybe Canada would need to lobby for more games to make it worthwhile to spread it between 3 cities but I personally would like to see Edmonton’s continued inclusion - and not just because that is my most likely base of operations in 2026 during the WC.

They wanted 3 host cities to start in Canada from so hopefully there is a good split between all three cities and they all get games. Geographically it is a great split also.

The Edmonton demands is the only thing that could hurt having it there imo.

Still an absolute joke the way Mexico and Canada get the shaft with the overwhelming majority of games happening in the states. We will take what we can get though.

I still suspect that they will announce all three cities as host and let Edmonton decide for themselves if they want in or drop out.  Besides, I heard the mayor on a radio station, when asked about the conditions, he kind of waffled or sidestepped,   Suggesting that there was wiggle room on the conditions.

Yeah, that's my feeling. If FIFA wants to increase the number of games in Canada, great. But if they leave it as is, then they're not going to give Edmonton half the games in a 5-3-2 split. 1/3 of the tickets guaranteed to the city of Edmonton might also be a sticking point.
