I think there's definitely a difference between "buying just a sports stream service" and "buying a streaming service that includes sports". If you're signing up for TSN/Sportsnet, that's all you're getting vs signing up for Prime and getting all the additions perks that comes with.  Similarly, I've had people tell me they'd watch MLS games on Apple if it gave them access to all of Apple. Has sort of got me wondering if TSN should essentially consider dropping TSN+ and simply bundling it in with Crave (with the admission that I don't know what Craves subscription rate is).

To be honest, we got Amazon Prime there because of non streaming stuff well before they got into sports.  Was recommended in one my first orientations.

(Amazingly fast shipping for someone coming from Canada - it's a tiny country and even continent, to be fair - and way better and broader deals on a lot of things. I miss being able to see where my package is on a map. Here we live in a modest city but my sister-in-law who is an hour away can't get Amazon at all, so sends all her bloody junk to us.  Rant over.)

Up until earlier this year, people in Nunavut were the biggest subscribers to Prime, because they got free shipping. Which if you're in the north was a hell of a benefit. The loophole was closed earlier this year.

Oh I get that. I'd be interested to know what the number of people would be who'd subscribe to Prime for the NHL vs how many have watched the NHL on Prime because they already have the service. I also get Bettman needing to talk about Prime in glowing terms, because he desperate needs another bidder for the Canadian rights in a few years - Rogers/Bell alone won't match what Rogers paid last time.

Anyway, I was mostly just trying to steer the conversation towards streams with multiple uses vs single use (such as OneSoccer), where a single use might be a tougher sell.

It's an interesting topic.

I haven't had cable for almost 25 years so would rather just pay for what I watch/use.

So I am okay with (becoming less) cheap specialised streaming services.

That said, I have Fubo because of the Premier League (you don't know how nice it is to actually have every game) so can't get myself to pay for standalone OneSoccer.  I have DAZN now for European football and NFL.  I had TSN streaming for the summer.  I watched a little bit of Oilers playoffs at friends.

I am way behind on entertainment stuff I get from Prime but I will get a Prime channel for a month or two for a specific show.

Subscription services can be a silent and nasty cost as they add up.

Don't think I am completely atypical.

The problem with streaming is yes if you have a solid demand for a product that is an established cultural entity like NHL, EPL, NFL etc sure people will go looking for it and even if they're not on "cable" Sportscenter will feature it.. but if you're building a property from scratch in a market you'll just get lost on a streaming service. I'd also argue most people who follow Sports don't really watch sports. They watch Sportscenter and look up at the screen at the gym, at the pub, at the restaurant

As an example I'm really excited about the MLB playoffs, I know exactly what's going on but truthfully I haven't watched a single game. At least not more than 20 minutes of one. I find that game in 30 mins is pretty amazing when I'm trying to get the kids off to school

One thing I hate about the streaming services sports coverage is they drop you in to the game and when the whistle blows they're gone. If I'm really in to a game I like the full experience. I want to hear from the drunks outside the stadium before and after the game. I want to see the guys getting off the bus etc etc

DAZN when it first launched was phenomenal. Every EPL and Champions League game (plus various other sports)? What a deal. More than happy to sign up for it. Then everything splintered more. Fubo isn't bad ( in terms of properties EPL, OneSoccer, Ligue 1 and Serie A, though the service itself kind of sucks). But it's not cheap and misses other things. Streaming might be the future, but "not paying for streaming" might also be the future...

I feel DAZN is a dogs breakfast nowadays. They have way too much junk on there

You may like Prime. Before Leafs game, they showed 30 minutes of inside the arena with no commentary. Some said it felt like they were inside the arena.
