Jonny’s name is trending in footy Twitter. I suppose that’s what you get when you’re the only name on the squad that outlets know will get clicks.
Nevertheless, starting to get really excited. Seeing the titles of “Can Jonathan David slay the dragon” or “Will Jonathan David be the difference tonight at the Bridge” really drives home the fact that this is Canadian soccer now. The fact that THOSE are the headlines coming out of London, Chelsea for heavens sakes, is extremely telling of where this program and the footy culture in Canada is heading.

Tons of scouts at tonight’s game as well. If he puts in a solid performance against one of the best, he’ll definitely turn some of those big name rumours into real offers coming his way in the summer.

Win or loss, lots to look forward to tonight

David has been heavily link to inter. If they sell Lautaro( who’s been on bad form) they could very well sign him.

This is the perfect club for him that or liverpool. 2D08F1FE-331B-4333-8E4C-93B0BD51AAF7.jpeg.2ad60d65931c3cc15d7a173241c141c0.jpeg

pretty neat to see media outlets of all kinds, huge and tiny, making a bid for starved Canadian footy eyeballs!

Round of 16 is a bigger stage than a Concacaf WCQ and a mid-season top of the table clash against PSG.

Only for EPl fanboys who live and breathe for those narratives. But thanks for insulting our qualifying campaign and his Ligue 1 achievments.

Round of 16 is nowhere really. Especially when it's home and away. Even if he scores some nice ones to take Chelsea out, it is not that significant: if he does, that reiterates existing interest, no one learns anything they did not already know; if he doesn't, it won't mean much, it'll just be what is expected. Major clubs have proper scouting, and no team is dumb enough to think David isn't worth it just because he and his crappy team did not strive against Chelsea.

No player on Villarreal, an equally modest team, is saying their match against Juventus tonight is their biggest stage ever. And Juventus is a far bigger and more important club than Chelski.

Qualifying Canada for the World Cup or beating PSG at the END of the season in a critical away match to keep the leadership in Ligue 1 --inform yourself at least, you weren't even paying attention-- far bigger.

Starting

Looks like he is starting as a lone striker up top, with a 5-man midfield behind him, Bamba up the left side doing his usual wasteful stuff.

They changed their keeper, Jardim, interesting, a guy who was a Lille player but had been loaned back to the Portuguese league, must be a big match for him.

Am I right that away goals no longer matter in CL? If so, losing 1-0 would not be so bad in the end, though of course we'd prefer to see David score.

that's a really defensive lineup for Lille. Going to be a long night for David. Perhaps he can show off his defensive abilities. Lille sold Reinildo Mandava during the last window to Atletico Madrid...a solid two way LB who was having a very strong season for Lille
