General Discussion on CMNT

It's true many of our players are out of form and there's a "new" head coach, but we were  banged up pretty bad going into the WC and  still had a very good game vs Belgium and periods of solid play vs Croatia & Morrocco. Japan is in top form and will be a massive test but that's what this team needs. I think our players are going to be pumped for the game.

Does anybody know why on Wikipedia it states that Canada is set to face UAE in a friendly on January 6? I've seen this happen before with Japan where the Wikipedia page stated we were facing Japan (last year) long before it was officially confirmed. Weird.

Could be nothing but could be something. UAE does have Asian Cup starting on the 14th, so we could be their prep fixture. It does say on the Canadian page that UAE would host so that would make sense as the Asian Cup is in nearby Qatar. And for us, they would be an opponent with (I assume) a modest appearance fee that's good enough to get something out of the game, but not so good they'd get smashed. UAE are ranked 70th (decent) and beat CR recently IIRC.

Someone keeps editing the page because they're weird.

There's been a lot of vandalism there, and similar posts about similar matches that never occurred. Just revert it.

Not saying it’s true but UAE would be a team that would likely pay for us to come, like Qatar in 2017. We also have a good enough domestic squad to give them a serious test.

For sure ...that's what I meant to say actually. It would make sense financially for us because they would host us and pay us and would work out for them because we would be cheap (I assume).

Wales returns to oldest international ground that is Wrexham's Racecourse Ground for a friendly vs Gibraltar tomorrow (can watch on DAZN).

CMNT's connection to Wrexham is that we played one of five internationals staged at the Racecourse in this century. On May 30, 2004, Canada lost a friendly to Wales by 1-0.

The starting 11 was Onstad, Imhof, Watson, De Vos, Jazic, Hume, Hutchinson, De Guzman, Brennan, Radzinski & De Rosario.

It’s been removed by now, but that would be surprising- UAE is playing Hong Kong, Palestine, and Iran between Jan 14 - 21st. Even with a friendly, a four game window seems like a lot for them?

That team was of similar quality to our current side.

We've mostly improved in results, not players. Hard to admit but thems the facts.

Is that so? I don't recall anyone from that side being Davies quality. And maybe we could argue Radz was comparable to David back then, but that's probably a stretch, no? Was Stalteri playing midfield for us in those days? If so maybe we could say he was comparable to Eustaquio? Big maybe for me though and probably not the best comparison anyway.
