has done nothing to merit a call up but d2 players in netherlands and belgium have...its called brotherhood stuff

It's a weak claim to blame this on brotherhood.

At CDM we have loturi, bombito and fraser available. Priso, okello etc are all guys who havnt really shown a reason to call them up. Choiniere obv was a miss but he was injured during the staq replacement or else he may have gotten the call over fraser.

At striker we have cav, JRR and brym available. would we prefer Akinola to brym? Its extremely logical as to why brym is the option available as a B team striker. Not sure why its even a topic to compare a striker to batyrov.

Batyrov on the other hand is in russia so politically he isnt an option. Add in the fact that hes barely played in a league that isnt spectacular and has 0 CMNT experience and I can see why we would pick fraser over him. As much as people on this board dislike fraser, his GC (and all other CMNT) performances were worthy of a call up.

On the flip side, we call up guys like JRR, bombito, mcgraw, ahmed, mcgill, loturi, nelson, and zator, who are all not part of this "brotherhood". If batyrov clearly performed at a level to warrant a call up (politics aside, he would have gotten the call.

Also to call brym a brotherhood guy when hes made less than half our WCQ squads and got cut from an expanded WC roster is laughable.

With a new season that has begun, and two tournaments behind us. The positive is that we continue to build depth.
I think in our favoured formation of 3-5-2, based on recent call-ups (22/23) this is what our depth chart currently looks like:

Sirois is ahead of McGill, and based on fitness, he is presently ahead of Crepeau. The present order could be Borjan, St Clair, Sirois, Crepeau, etc.

Love it, good work!

But if that middle line of CB's doesn't convince anyone we shouldn't be playing 3 at the back, we're a lost cause.

Look at all that LB, RB and winger depth!

Considering that McGill was recently called, and Sirois wasn't, that's clearly not the reality. Unless there's some actual evidence that negates the facts on the ground, we shouldn't make such assumptions.

Sirois has impressed me this season, so hopefully the break will give him refreshing and not cool him off.  In conjunction, I am quite curious to see how St. Clair does on Friday night in Columbus as well as the rest of the MLS season because I don't feel that he is hitting on all cylinders at the moment.

What a crazy time to be a fan.

Two days ago, Davies got 2 assists and was MotM for Bayern.

So far this morning, David scored the gamewinner for Lille, Brym has scored in the Dutch top flight, and Millar scored twice for Basel.

Corbeanu is starting for Grasshopper, and Nelson will be recalled to Rosenborg when he is healthy.

Larin is in La Liga and Staq is a starter with a Portuguese powerhouse.

Oh, and last night Miller won a cup competition with Messi on his team - by beating a team with MacNaughton and Shaff in the final (and all 3 of those guys scored their PKs in the shootout).

Crazy.

Imagine when Johnston is healthy again. Celtic play Kilmarnock today.

Edit: And who knows what Laryea and Adekugbe will do for Vancouver. They have the potential to really improve that squad. I guess we'll find out tonight vs San Jose.

Yup, it's  the performance of our players at their clubs that is  generating recognition for Canada and  current/future young Canadian players. It's why Corp sponsors are  getting on board. Now all we need is for the CSA to do their part and not mess up a golden opportunity 🙏🏾

And we can't get a friendly in September but the possiblity of playing Uzbekistan in that window based on a wiki page update is giving a bunch of posters on here major hard-ons.

Crazy, indeed.

Well, CSB has something to say about those sponsors, unhappily for the CSA. We need some corporations to sponsor individual camps and friendlies for the men and women. Hopefully that could be done outside of the CSB framework.  Canada versus Australia brought to you by "Corporation X".

If Corporate sponsors haven't already done so, they will start putting pressure on the CSA/CSB to resolve the issues with the players and get their business in order. I doubt they are happy spending millions (in the case of CIBC at least) while the CMNT stays inactive and there is negative press in  media. They may even have legal grounds to void their sponsorship agreements or worse claim for damages re misrepresentation or non fulfilment of the terms, whether in fact or in spirit, of the agreements. I doubt sponsors were advised of the ongoing issues and the possibility of inactivity when they signed their deals.

Does anyone remember when the NFL brought in the replacement referees...

Maybe the CSA will have to call in a complete different squad for these games...you know the guys who aren't worried about how much more money they could get.

Create a new brotherhood.? Themed the "never had shit" squad with guys like  MacNaughton, Zator, Bustos, Waterman?

Because this feud/dispute seems never ending with zero solution in sight.

Not sure if your serious. But no respectable talented player (on the fringe of making the team) would ever go for this. This idea and the CPL one are so unbelievably stupid.

If there is no contract and the real Canadian players decide not to go. Canada will not field a team

If only there was a recent tournament where fringe players proved they would go even without the real players... I am obviously being silly here but your comment is nonsense.

Playing for the national team is a huge goal for almost every player. Add in the experience of playing a mexico in azteca or the ability to showcase yourself at a higher level and there will be players who will go.

What your saying is that scab workers will never exists.... but they do.

This is a brilliant plan.  Lets set the program back 15 years by alienating the top talent, block any potential dual from committing, downgrade even further potential revenues, relegate our MNT to competing with the minnows again and piss off the fans.

Bet this idea takes off.

Back to being positive  :)  It seems that every other month a new nugget appears at forward/striker. Yesterday was Vilsaint's day.  All we need is 1/2 of them to hit the big 5 leagues. Hopefully Jebbo commits this year and although unlikely, there's still a chance with Luca.  Choiniere & Saliba  are ready to claim at least 1 place in our midfield, plus  Kianz Froese who is starting and getting lots of mins in B2 and Ahmed who had a remarkable GC. There's also Loturi . Some young prospects at CB emerging, but still too early to feel comfortable. I think JH should just call up LDF in October, even if it is just to train with the squad.

So the CSA would forefit rather than call different players?

Let's all hope this does not happen, but if the CSA starts fielding a B/C squad going forward and we get smashed, don't qualify for Copa etc the CSA will be facing a pile of lawsuits from sponsors. Revenues would dry up and CSB/CPL would be at risk. Let's not kid ourselves, the recent uptick in popularity of the game is due to our star players and the performance of our MNT. Regardless of "which side you are on",  the CSA/CSB need to get a deal done. There's too much parity in Concacaf now for us to field a B/C squad and think we can get results. We tied Guadalupe and Guatemala at the GC and would have been destroyed if we played Panama or Mexico.

What sort of lawsuits? We literally just fielded a B/C team squad at the GC and theres no legal backing for sponsors. The overwhelming revenues of CSA are unrelated to sponsorship (think membership fees, grants etc.). Even if sponsors dry up, we would still have our pretty close to our pre CSB deal revenues so the program would still be viable (not thriving but viable).

The uptick in popularity is multifaceted. We have had increased youth participation in the game for years that has led to producing more and therefore better player pools. We hosted a WWC and now a mens. We have a better broadcasting system than we ever had before. We have a domestic league. We finally have a professional marketing team putting our squad in the light.

Don't kid yourself. No one cared when we qualified in 1986 and no one cared when we won 2000 GC. Having a winning squad/talented players is not enough singlehandedly to improve the game. It for sure helps tremendously but its a broader conversation than saying davies is the saviour and reason for everything.

This past GC  given it was after a jammed club season with WC, it  was always expected that we would field a B/C team just like the USA. But you get into a prolonged period of not fielding you best team and there's going to be very serious repercussions and not just with sponsors, but the fan base and the future of the game in Canada. Do you really think we can field a B/C team at the 2026 WC? . If you think corp sponsorship is not significant the CSB  would just tear up their agreement with the CSA.

Like @Bigandy says, on what grounds would a lawsuit be viable? I guess if CSA made a statement blocking players from the CMNT player association then perhaps, but otherwise it doesn't seem possible.

I am not calling for this but rather just pondering what the options are for the CSA. It's a road to nowhere fast so I hope the CSA doesn't move forward with it.
