We never had a taxi squad for the GC either. The last time I recall us doing that was the 1st round of qualifying. I believe ZBG was called up from the taxi squad to the main squad for the Aruba game (and scored). And when Tesho was called to the Gold Cup, that was not a matter of being called from a taxi squad, he was just an injury replacement (which is common for Gold Cups). Given all of the attention on him and the aggressive recruitment effort, I do wonder if this signals that he declined a Mexico call up at this time pending the opportunity to “try on” Canada. Maybe the more likely scenario is that they are courting him but not yet ready to hand him a spot on the actual squad, but I find it hard to believe that after all the hoopla about him they wouldn’t somehow try to jam him into a squad of 30. To me, this could be a huge indicator that he really is interested is a true assessment of the Canadian option. So that's the WC call-up. He's not really in it. Mind you, our WC call-up would be our call-up this and next window plus a few shifts for form or injury. And he wouldn't be closer to ours.
